Welcome back Sam--While Air America Drifts
Sam--good luck with the new show. I've been with Air America in NYC since its inception, and enjoyed you & Janeane delving into issues and squabbling like school kids, and was sorry to see her go--altho you did great on your own--and as a substitute host for others when they went on vacations.
Since Air America began, I have been growing increasingly disappointed with it--starting with the Malloy and Marin firings and accellerating after it switched to WWRL.
Besides the reception now being horrible--I can't pick up the station in certain rooms and times of the day (and I live in Queens), Air America insists on keeping that "other Sam" on the air in the mornings with Armstrong Williams--quite the "progressive" voice.
The other Sam (Greenfield)is, at best, middle of the road; and Army is a die-hard right-winger who literally has lunches with people in the Bush camp. These two guys have bonded and agree with each other much more than they disagree; with Army mostly hijacking the content/direction of the discussions--so most of it sounds just like anything you'd hear on any other station. A discussion about Bush's policy in Iraq and corruption, ineptitude and so on--was just spent on discussing why Bush was correct or not about going into Iraq--with no questioning of his motives, corruption and so forth.
Then Air America hires Lionell. If I wanted to hear him, I'd have already been listening to him on the other channel he was on.
So...having you back is great. I now wish they'd have Malloy and Marin back, too; and then, when they do hire new people--hire people who are actually on the left--so we can have discussions & disagrreements/agreements based on certain left-type or truth-type foundations--and not begin, for example, by arguing IF we should be in Iraq or not; but accept that we should not be there as a given--and then discuss what to do about it.
On Air America we should not be discussing IF Bush is inept or a thug, but rather--what to do about it.
These are two examples of "left wing" (truth-wing) discussings I used to hear and still expect to hear on Air America. But sadly the station seems to be going in a different direction. Thank god Randi & Raychel are still there--and some others as well.
And along with that good news, again, welcome back and good luck, Sam Seder. If you can, can you try to have some more guests who find no outlet elsewhere--like Norm Chomsky and Ramsy Clark, etc.
A question for others: Since I don't get the Young Turks in NYC--how are they?
Be well & happy,
Barrie

AAR's New Mis-Direction
The only good change about AAR 2.0 so far is the expansion to 3 hours and addition of David Bender to Ring of Fire. Until I experience the new weekday p.m. schedule, I'll hold my comments, but as for the rest (particularly Sam and Laura Flanders) I have to question if Rahm Emmanuel is not "on the board" of AAR 2.0.
Moving to the middle is not an option in the 21st century.
Re: Welcome back Sam--While Air America Drifts
re Sam: "...enjoyed you & Janeane delving into issues and squabbling like school kids, and was sorry to see her go--altho you did great on your own--and as a substitute host for others when they went on vacations."
I agree. Sam has and will continue to do a great show on his own. However, I miss the "squabbling like school kids." Sometimes hearing the host carry on a conversion, whether with a co-host or with a caller, adds an entertaining dynamic to the show.
This new direction may not be fruitful financially (at least not yet), check out the story here: http://ltradio.blogspot.com/ http://ltradio.blogspot.com/

Lionel what a bore
I listened to Lionel the first day, interested in what he might say about AG Gonzos testimony and what does he talk about - Amos and Opie. Ok he is there to dumb down the discourse I get it. Today by accident I catch his friday show, is he talking about the Ashcroft Hospital incident....no he is having call in on basic civics. So it is clear Lionel is the New Springer....This is not what we want. There are plenty of dumb options, now there is one more. I for one won't be back to Air America. There is one light in AA and it is Maddow but I would think they have to nix her cause she is too smart.
Good luck Sam but you work in dumb company, sad to say but it is true.

Air America Deflates
I have now started to look at other sources for political talk. Air America is no longer providing what I want during much of the day. I have just discovered Nova M Radio and Jones Radio Networks. I can download podcasts from these sources and listen to them when crap like Lionel is on Air America. Mike Malloy is on Nova M and Jones Radio has Bill Press, Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller. Not as good as Sam but all are way better than Lionel. Maybe Sam can even find a new home where he can be on 5 days a week.
So my recomendation to everyone is to look for alternatives. If you don't like what they're serving, shop around.
Nova M
For some reason I can't get Nova M Radio to load on my computer...I would love to check it out.
Gina
I won't leave Air America totally.
Don't get me wrong. I'll be listening to Seder On Sunday.
And...
The Young Turks
Rachel Maddow
Thom Hartmann
Randi Rhodes
Ring Of Fire
The 'new' direction of Air America?
Do you hear that sound? Yep, it's a toilet flushing! lionel? Puhleeze!!! What an arrogant, out of touch, asshat! Send him back to the night where he belongs! Every day I send an email to lionel@lionelonline.com (as the 'suit's at AAR could give a shit) saying: I want Sam Seder back! Am waiting to hear that middle-of-the-road idiot go, as Randi would say, "bat-crap crazy" on air. I am SO sad every weekday come 9:00 a.m. - and what makes it worse is that AAR STILL plays Sam's promos for his morning show! Are they trying to kill me here?! lionel is a fucking idiot - XM gives me ed shultz instead of Thom Hartmann at Noon! I'm going crazy! Streaming is out of the question for me as I'm on dial-up (in a remote area of WV). On the up side, have bought a bottle of champagne and will be drinking same when Sam comes on air tomorrow!
Why was Sam's ratings so low
Why was Sam's ratings so low? on the 9-12 time

Let's up the new lineup brings some new life to Air America
Anonymous Writes: The only good change about AAR 2.0 so far is the expansion to 3 hours and addition of David Bender to Ring of Fire. Until I experience the new weekday p.m. schedule, I'll hold my comments, but as for the rest (particularly Sam and Laura Flanders) I have to question if Rahm Emmanuel is not "on the board" of AAR 2.0. Moving to the middle is not an option in the 21st century.
Barrie Responds: I agree with you except that since I live in NYC--Air America in NYC will not get rid of the morning show of Sam Greenfield & Armstrong Williams. They were the morning show before Air America took over. The way I heard it, WWRL insisted that Air America keep this show because, IF Air American leaves WWRL--the station will have something to build on to become its own station again.
You don't know, or perhaps you do, how frustrating it is to hear them in the morning--and to hear ads about Air America's "progressive" lineup and having these two included on the list--especially Armstrong.
I keep turning off the radio or switching channels but nothing much else is on. There's WCBS news radio--which can be interesting but gets repetitious, and borning. There's WABC's Curtis & Kuby--and Kuby can be interesting but they have long commercial blocks--and there's NPR--which is pot luck--may be interesting or may be discussing the quality of sugar in Cambodia at the turn of the century. WBAI-FM can also be interesting--but is also hit & miss. You may hear unique examples of ancient tribal music from Peru as played by silent Monks in 1926; or some show in Spanish which may be great--if you speak Spanish. Or, they may have a guest on who I find great...or one of their marathons. So, I'm left with turning back to Sammy & Army and listening to this bonded dynamic duo navigate Air America to the right side of the middle of the road. I miss Raychel Maddow who used to have that spot. I still try to listen to her at 6 PM after Randi--but, to me, her show was best in the morning--not in the early evening. It has that early morning mood to it. But it is still a great show and I learn a great deal.
Like you, I, too, look forward to see what the new lineup brings and sounds like.

To me--Springer was not so bad
Hi Ricard G,
RG Writes: So it is clear Lionel is the New Springer....
Barrie Responds: In theory, based on the Springer TV, I would agree with you. But when I actually heard Springer on Air America, I was pleasantly surprised with the sincerity and range of his concerns. His discourse seemed firmly planted in honest left-wing roots...and he seemed personable to me. Sometimes he drifted to the middle a bit--but people do discover traces of the truth in most places. I believe he tried his best and was doing a very good job. He had his perspective which I believe did belong on Air America--maybe once a week.
I wish Air America aired live shows 24/7--it would open up lots of time for lots of hosts.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
nova m radio
Hi Anon,
Anon Writes: I have just discovered Nova M Radio and Jones Radio Networks.
Barrie Responds: Thanks for the info--since this online network is new to me. I saved it in my favorite places and am listening to it now as I respond to some of the posts. I haven't checked out Jones yet. I guess its from Mother Jones periodical.

Best Shows Educate While They Entertain
Hi,
Anon Writes: Don't get me wrong. I'll be listening to Seder On Sunday. And...The Young Turks, Rachel Maddow, Thom Hartmann,
Randi Rhodes, Ring Of Fire
Barrie Responds: I agree with you on these shows. Because of my schedule--I get to hear Randi Rhodes the most--and she is great. And Rachel Maddow, who is great, too. I don't get to hear Hartmann, but did hear him when he stepped in for Randi as a guest host--and I enjoyed him, too--like a mellow Malloy. I sometimes get to hear Ring of Fire, which I also like. And there are other shows I get to hear from time to time which I like.
I believe the best shows are those who educate while they entertain and entertain while they educate. Shows that do this are Air America at its best.
Better Days To Come
Hi Lambchop,
Lambchop Writes: I am SO sad every weekday come 9:00 a.m. - and what makes it worse is that AAR STILL plays Sam's promos for his morning show! Are they trying to kill me here?!
Barrie Responds: I guess maybe you were a fan of Shari Lewis. In any case, better days to come--starting tomorrow. I don't think they're trying to kill you--they are desperate for listeners.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
Why was Sam's ratings so low?
I don't know why Sam's rating were so low. I didn't even know they were so low. Maybe it takes time to build a following. Even tho he was on the station from day one--he was on at a different time. Maybe those who liked Springer were upset that he left. Were Springer's rating so low, too? Anyway, we liked Sam, as did others.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
Sam time
Put Sam back on evening hours then if his ratings were better at that hour. Just put him back full time please!!!!!!
Hi, Anon Writes: Put Sam
Hi,
Anon Writes: Put Sam back on evening hours then if his ratings were better at that hour. Just put him back full time please!!!!!!
Barrie Responds: I understand. It's sad, but Air American is really just a part-time network. IF it was on 24/7 there would be room for so many more shows & hosts. The station would be better if it had Malloy, Marin, & Sam on for one day a week for three hours--than not at all. So, at least we still have Seder...and Randi, Maddow, and so on.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
I doubt Mr. Green will undo
I doubt Mr. Green will undo the Lionel debacle and give us back our 15 hours of Sam, but maybe he can do the next best thing. In another thread, I suggested he consider syndicating both shows (as AAR used to do with Franken and Hartmann) and let the affiliates decide whether they want to switch to Lionel or stick with Sam.
www.bejeezuszine.com
ratings
And do we even know for a fact that Sam's ratings were lower than anything else on AAR? I would be surprised if that was the case. I suspect this is more new management tinkering with something thaat wasn't broken. The problem wasn't AAR programming. It was poor management and zero promotion.
ratings
Sam regained all the affiliates in his time slot that Springer had lost.
As for ratings, I understand he was taken out of the time slot before a complete book on the ratings was released.
I've seen so many angry people posting about Sam's move, I think he had better ratings that you guys are assuming, especially if you include the internet streams.
People can be slow on the uptake.
Sam regained all the affiliates in his time slot that Springer had lost.
Springer was a real struggle to endure. An engaged public would have swamped his show.
He was too much for them. I think they peed every time the got on air because he speaks provocatively.
Where was Sam On in AM - or why his ratings were low
So I think part of what is percieved as low ratings for Sam's show was realy a problem of crappy distribution. For instance I was in Canada in Mar. I tried to hear Sam's show at it's normal time slot, for me 6-9 AM. Well low and behold I could not get a stream from Airamerica.com so I tried to see where Sam was on other station. I could not find 1 station where he was broadcasted live. I was able to catch Sam on Rebroadcast on KPOJ but most AA stations play Stephanie Miller at that time. What does this show me lackluster support for Sam from mgt. He is AA show not a Jones radio network but it seems that Sam lost out to Stephanie. In short time the same will happen to Lionel. Problem with Lionel is it same ole same ole talk radio - boring. Let's see what people think about .....I have opened up the lines.....
Sam you keep it up cause you do have it.
Also I know when Sam when from sam to SAM. It was when he filled in for Randi and did 7 hours for a few weeks all the wild going nutso on Jeff Gannon. That was awesome Sam and I appreciate your honestly.

Santa Monica
I'm not aware of the actual figures for Sam's ratings
but one thing's fur certain: they would have been a hell of a lot higher had AAR provided some degree of support. You had to really dig to find anything about the show, and San Francisco dropped it entirely. The only way I could get it was to download it every day and transfer it to my mp3 player every day for commute times. It was a pain but I did that every day just to hear the show, and I'm sure there are many more who did as well. Now they push Sam further out of the picture to give time to Lionel? But they keep the Young Turks?
I would never normally say something like this, but to be fair and frank: Lionel's show sucks shit. There simply isn't a more polite way to put it. YT's aren't a lot better for my tastes, but I see how many people fine value in it. I respect that. I have never found someone who really gives a damn about Lionel.
Bringing Sam back on Sundays is AAR's last and slimmest chance for me. And to be honest, I don't know if I'm interested in a show that's only on once a week.
often I wonder--who is running this ship?
Hi Spunky,
Often I wonder who is running Air America, for they always seem to make the wrong decisions and do the wrong things. I don't mean who by name--but who by intentions and agenda?
And I don't mean that I believe these owners intentionally want to ruin the station--but that their intentions certainly don't seem to be to create a great forum for leftist debate and discussion.
They always seem to default back to just making money--and in an inept manner. They seem to lack the passion of the power punch--as do the Democrats. 'Tis a pity--for much greatness can occur with the proper thinking at the helm--in both cases.
Be well & happy,
Barrie

RG--I agree
Hi RG,
I agree with you. We don't know for sure what Sam's ratings were or would have been; Lionel is the same ole same ole; and Sam developed or was able to better express his own assertive-self-persona when he took over for Randi.

Let's Look at the Facts
If you really anaylze the situation the only show in prime time on Air America is Randy Rhoades. The original line-up is either fired, on during the evening, or on the weekends. The fact it Air America is not Air America any longer.
I have been listening since day one and I would listen to every show all day long. It was great then.
I believe that eventually you will not see any of these shows on. I believe that they gave us too much information and that wasn't good for politics, An Informed Public. Now all you hear is the same old bull from these new programs. Rachel is still great and I listen every day. I have been waiting for same to come back.
Thank goodness we had Air America on for the years we couldn't get information, it got me through those beginning years with Bush. I want to thank the original personalities on AAR you made me a an informed citizen.

Lionel
He's horrible. He's rude to people who call into the show. He talks over them. He doesn't go in depth about anything interesting. His voice SUCKS. He's another Sam Greenfield. And I have to agree with Barry with everything he said about "Sammy and Army"--they're the worst.
I wish Sam was back on his old schedule. Weekday mornings just aren't the same anymore without him. Good luck, Sam!
But if we get Lionel instead of Sam....
We are going to be a lot less informed. Thom, Randi and Randy are great and very informative. It is sad that we lose a daily show, that keeps pace with the Bush admin scandels. What I said about Sam not being on that many stations was also true of Maron. It seems that the way AAR kills you off is to not work to syndicate your show on their "network". I just can't tell why Lionel is on the talkers top 20. This isn't meant to be a dig at Lionel I am sure he is a nice guy, it is just I liked Sam in the AM. And Lionel if you get the message, do just do standard format talk radio, have a POV and desire to uncover what lurks at the heart of Bush admin, not let's rehash whatever morning zoo is talking about. I think AAR has this terrible habit of alienating their customers.
I got a Sirius radio when AAR first appeared on Sat. What does AAR do they alienate their best customers(one who spent lot of $$ so they can get their network) and they go and change it these people. Then they offer me a discount for a XM radio that was higher priced then I could find on the internet. Clearly not business people running your network with zero focus on the customers, us the listeners.
RG
I managed to listen to
I managed to listen to Lionel for about half an hour before I feared I might vomit. He's amazingly terrible--possibly worse than Springer, who at least wasn't pretentious and churlish. My guess is that the rest of the shows I like will be dropped by AAR. I hope that AAR keeps Sam in this once-a-week slot, but I'm not betting on it.
Seder, Maddow, Bender, "Pap" & Kennedy, Turks
Without Sam and Rachel (with Kent Jones NOW), I'd leave Air America alone altogether. David Bender is good. Bobby Jr. and Pap are good. The Turks are good. Thom Hartmann is good. Randi is ok.
But man, Air America is too serious these days. The Maron show is so very missed. Even the "oy oy oy" show would be a welcomed return for me.
If Air America wants to be "Meet the Press" 24/7 - it's not going to work. We need the brilliant humor AAR started out with.
If not Maron, Garofalo and Franken - surely there's some funny liberals out there willing to work dirt cheap.
missing Sam
I really miss Sam's show. Lionel is uninteresting. I tried his show out for a while and went back to Stephanie Miller, whom I had abandoned for Sam when they were on at the same time. My affiliate here in Mn also carries that Limbaugh wannabe who I also can't listen to. Who says he's where 'America comes to talk?' Well, I get a lot more done around the house than I used to. I miss the old days of Air America when I could turn on my radio or computer any time of the day and listen to a great show. Probably the only appointment radio I have now will be Sam's show on Sundays. I really miss Sam's show.
Lionel show
The problem is not just that Lionel insults his callers. He insults the entire audience. He tells us that he has just given us a test to see how stupid we are and that (given a few callers who fell for his "test') we ARE that stupid. He tells us he hates callers who say their own names or say "Thank you for taking my call." So he hates polite people, too, in advance. He seems to be discouraging calls from all but the most masochistic people. Plus, saying that he dislikes liberals because they are always complaining but he is no way a conservative is no way acceptable for a host on AAR. I tried to email Mark Green about my disatisfaction but my mail keeps getting returned. I think he is hiding! I think the best AAR line-up was the original one and all the tinkering has really made it no longer a "must listen."
I HATE IT WHEN
"People call up and say Thanks for taking my call. Why do people say that?" - Buffoon since May 14,2007 much?
Try going through
The Nova M Phoenix station (that is actually Nova M)
They have several options for streaming and one should work for you:
http://www.1480kphx.com/
AAR is off to another mismanagment start!
It's time for the moneybags, Greens, to get a clue. Lionel is not that clue. And more mismanagement isn't going to put AAR where it belongs, on the top of the broadcast world. I have not abandoned AAR, but I agree with everyone else, that there sure is a giant hole in the programming from 9-12. Put Sam back in that slot, for God's sake, for my sake, and for the sake of many, many AAR listeners (and don't ingore the streamers--they stream only because they don't have local stations airing AAR). Streamers spend money on products, too. How absurd to ignore them, as if they don't count.
The radio world is changing quickly and dramatically, and AAR had better get with the program, or they will find themselves left in the fast moving dust. Firing a bright, innovative and entertaining talker like Sam is a MISTAKE!
be thankful
you dont get the young turks
and after seeing the new website aar has
i'm surprised there isnt a small FOX logo on the top left
PLEASE jump off this sinking AAR ship and go daily with NovaM!
I did the same thing here in San Francisco. I started streaming AAR from NY on day one and got hooked on Sam and Janeane. I used to love it when they would fight with each other. Hilarious. Eventually AAR found an affiliate in SF (KQKE) and I didn't need to stream anymore. I was really bummed when Janeane left but I stuck with Sammy and he became my favorite host. Then KQKE didn't carry his solo show and the stream from NY was too early for me to listen on the west coast. Eventually I found the stream from KPOJ in Portland and i also subscribed to the podcast to get my Sammy fix. The podcast was great. I LOVED ditching those super-annoying commercials and condensing the show to two hours. Now there is another hurdle...AAR just breaks my heart. It had so much promise in the beginning. I stuck with it, like trying to save a failing relationship. Eventually you gotta see that it's just too far gone and let it just...GO.
Sam...PLEASE just jump off this sinking AAR ship and go daily with NovaM!!!
Nova M
Just like streaming Air America, Nova M doesn't work too well on dial-up. Try using Nova M with the Windows Media streaming option with a better-than-dial-up connection (DSL or cable). Remember too, that it's sometimes buggy - just like AAR when you get that "stopped" thingie on the AAR media player. I have already added Nova M to my Windows Media Player playlist so I can just tune in by opening my media player and selecting it off the Playlist instead of always going to the Nova M web site each time I want to listen.
Hope this works as well for you as it has for me.
Puddytat
Hi Sam!
Personally, having Sam in the morning gave me a reason to get up before noon. Lionel never impressed me. If I wanted to listen to Lionel, I would have done so this long time. So I'm now back in the habbit of sleeping in until noon again (the luxury of self-employment).
Thom Hartmann is arguably the best commentator on the radio and is excellent in the 12-3PM-EST time slot, but the dolts at XM pre-empted him with Ed Schultz, so now I stream Hartmann off of the KPHX Phoenix web stream or podcast him off of the White Rose Soceity website. Randi and Rachel are also great, but there is only so many hours in the day I can tune in, so Thom Hartmann gets my ears most of the time.
Also, Malloy is great, but so is Jon Elliot. If AAR was smart, they'd bring back Malloy from 10PM-midnight-EST and run Jon Elliot after Malloy for the overnight. AAR should make the "Air Americans" a weekend show and put Sam back on at his old weeknight time, maybe doubling him up with Rachel. Ecotalk should be no more than two hours on the weekend.
State of Belief and The Time is Now are also keepers, provided that they are no longer than an hour each weekend.
-- Miss Carolyn
Springer not so bad?
Jerry Springer was nothing less than an apologist for the Bush administration. Listen to his old shows again, if you can. He let those bums off the hook time and time again.

Sam Seder and Laura Flanders:The last true liberals on AAR
What is going on with AAR? Are they insane to cancel the best programs they offered in return for the centrist type programs like Bender's "Politically Direct" and Rachel Maddow's sing-song like voice blaring the so-called progressive voice of the day? Seder, Malloy, and Laura Flanders have never pretended to be anything other than progressive and direct. They are the TRUE Progressives, so why were their shows marginalized and/or canceled?
Is the DLC behind it all? What's going on with AAR? It's damn scary to think that the network we thought was going to "saveprogressives" ended up destroying them! I miss Sam, cried today when I heard the "last" Laura Flanders Show and lament that Rachel Maddow and David Bender have moved towards the center. What are we to do, as progressives, and supporters of pure left winged radio? AAR has lost its way, whether they say they are "new" or "2.0" Bring back the Malloys, Marins, Seders, Garofalos, Flanders, and you'll have the strongest progressive voices on air! Get with it!
The new direction of Air America
The establishment advertisers don't want the real truth to be broadcast and they especially don't want to spend their advertising dollars to support talk radio that exposes how they, the huge corporations, are screwing the working people at most every turn. They are vested in the current corrupt system and are unwilling to change. As you may remember, there was an ABC memo that surfaced a while back that instructed radio station traffic directors not to place ROS (run of schedule) commercials inside or even adjacent to Air America programs on stations which were airing both conservative and liberal (Air America) talk shows. This has nothing to do with ratings. It has to do with using their ad dollars to snuff out the flickering flame of truth. They want to keep their relationships with the current people in power, which they have spent a great deal of money to solidify, and have benefited greatly from. Even if Sam's ratings were through the roof, I suspect that it would not be reflected in advertising sales revenues because the freeze out would be even more important in restoring or maintaining the status quo. Liberal and corporation are two words that don't really like each other, unfortunately. For those advertisers who may dare to cross the line in the interest of penetrating a new market segment, there would likely be blow back from the Gestapo establishment in one way or another. In case you haven't noticed, these guys play hard ball. Billions of dollars have established this paradigm, and a shift will be resisted by any means necessary. Even though they combat the formation of labor unions at every turn, these corporations work as a single unit, a union, when it comes to placing ad budgets on real liberal talk shows. They just won't do it.
So the result will likely be: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss". Liberal talk shows which are successful, Ed Schultz, for example, are more establishment friendly and less confrontational on critical issues that separate liberals from conservatives. Lionel, in my opinion, is a step in that direction by Air America. For America, this is a sad move, but for a business, it may be the only way to survive using the current model of advertiser supported radio networks.
Sam Seder tells it like it is, and that will not be tolerated by those who control the huge ad budgets. It is a damn, shame, but that is the way it is.
ROBinDALLAS
Air America is Toast!
Stick a fork in their butt...they're done! I just watched the Air America documentary, 'Left of the Dial', and it was obvious that management was completely inept, and unfortunately some of those same people are still at Air America. Having television people running a radio station is bound to fail. They are two completely different animals.
Everyone that I chose to listen to at Air America is now gone except for Randi and Rachel, and I'm still hoping that Nova M will snatch Sam up and give him the weekday show that he deserves and that the listeners want. Nova M isn't perfect, either, but at least they are trying to start up properly without all the B.S. that started up with Air America. After everything that the people went through in the HELL that was the start-up of Air America, they deserved MUCH better than the B.S. they did. Air America is another example of incompetent and inept management - MIS-management, and the people doing all the work on the front lines suffered and the inept management got off scott-free. What I'd like to know is WHY in the HELL is Evan Cohen NOT in JAIL!?!
Why was Sam's ratings so low
Why was Sam's ratings so low? on the 9-12 time

Maybe you’re rite Fernando. Randi’s ratings are very low also. And they keep her on.

Why are Air America's Rating So Low?
Hi Anon,
Anon Writes: Randi’s ratings are very low also. And they keep her on.
(resent Arbitron Ratings : Randi went from 60,00 listeners to 29,000 listeners.) Why the double standard???
Barrie Responds: Assuming the facts are valid, WHY are Air America's ratings so low?
Why Sam? Why Randi? What about Rachel?
I see a dilemma, of sorts.
Air America wants to, in theory, present a leftest truth to speak out against the dishonest policies of right-wing America. But doesn't that mean, almost by definition, that it won't do well in the ratings? Aren't most Americans on the right or in the middle? Why would they want to tune in?
If this is true, then in order to make money, they would have to hire popular hosts who are popular because of their appeal to this middle/right majority of people.
That is the dilemma: Be true to the "cause" and risk losing money--perhaps waiting until the time the public moves more left to make money; OR hire middle/right hosts.
And if I am incorrect, then why are Air America's ratings so low?
I'm sure there are some detailed breakdowns as to what the ratings actually are, in what time periods and with what age groups. Perhaps there is some good news hidden somewhere in the forest of numbers.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
America has a long history
of defending individual freedoms. That's not right wing or moderate.
That is a left leaning ideal. We didn't get to be a great country by concentrating on the individual or monarchy.

Hi Barrie,
The only problem with you're explanation...
Why did randi loose 30,000 LIBERAL listeners?
Lionel is a total bore
I agree. Listening to Lionel is like hearing chalk on a blackboard. Jerry Springer was better than this. I generally don't turn on AA until 12pm now. Miss you so much Sam! Reception of AA isn't good at home (northern Manhattan) so don't listen on the weekends. Sam, we need you back on weekdays...
I'd love to see a left-wing CNN-type network on Cable TV
Hi Anon,
Anon Writes: The only problem with you're explanation...Why did randi loose 30,000 LIBERAL listeners?
Barrie Responds: I don't know. And that is an excellent question. I'd also like to know the actual facts...like what were the actual numbers? Who were the actual listeners that were lost? How do they know who the listeners were? Age of listeners? Political bent? I wish Randi would talk about it or someone who knows--can do the research for us. IF what your saying is true (I DON'T mean to imply that you are lying or anything), then I think we should try to find out why. The life of the nation is connected to Air America or other left/liberal outlets. Why don't more rich lefties help out? Celebrities, artists, etc. Perhaps with new things it takes time to grow? I'm sure there are people out there with better questions than I can think of--and also others with great answers to these questions.
I always HOPED for a TV network like an Air America. Like a left-wing CNN or something. IF someone could get the money together from all the rich left-wing leaning celebrities, artists, businessfolks, etc--maybe that would be possible.
I had hoped Gore would do so with his new channel--but I can't even watch that channel for too many minutes at one time.
Be well & happy,
Barrie
I wanted to hear Micheal Moore...
Lionel was to annoying, i had to turn it off. Janean called in and after she hung up, he took a call from someone criticising her. the show seemed to be a lecture on how smart he is and the rules we must follow to think for ourselves. does anyone else see a contradiction there? I really don't like him. I am so pissed. Sam please move to nova m.

The "Flagship" station in NYC is a mess...
We have Sammy & Army in the morning. Then at night, they re-run their show AGAIN from 8 to 10 pm.
At 10 pm we get Alan Colmes, until midnight.
We don't even get "The Air Americans" at all.
At midnight we get vitamin infomercials.
On Saturday we get vitamin infomercials.
On Sunday we get religious sermons in the morning, followed by vitamin infomerials.
I can barely pick the station up, and I live in Queens too.
Air America's flagship station is a mess!!!!
If You Want to Shop Around
Try WBAI in a couple of weeks after their pledge drive is over.
They have consistently progressive radio from a wider variety of perspectives.

Hi Waiting,
Do you have any access or knowledge of what the actual ratings are or were for Sam...and Randi as well; and Rachel? I would like to know, including the source sited, what the ratings actually are. Can you help?
Be well & happy,

(I'm just guessing, on my way to bed...judging from what someone on the blog said about her show today...I don't listen to any other show than Sam's (& formerly Janeane's)..so I can't reply from my own knowledge...I just really did not vibe to Randi's voice when I tried to listen years ago..)
