not just a matter of letting the guest speak, though that's
important of course - his questions are just so well fitted to the subject matter, so sharp in their hitting the points of the main arguments - leaves the impression that he must indeed have read the book, taken notes, thought long and hard about it and come out with intelligent questions that lead to the complete understanding of the main thesis in a matter of minutes - sam must have been a smashing straight A's student in college I bet
good job sam

Worth repeating in the new thread...
It's not the information that concerns me...I am grateful for it, but it's what we do with the information and how we act upon it and is there enough us to enact a change of course.
One of my favorite Christmas songs is:
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With *God as our *father
*Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my *brother
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.
*insert what works for you or is more inclusive.
As Sam is so good at, and why he is my favorite talk show host, he recognized where we, his audience, would be at end of the show and knew what we would need--asking for and seeking the nugget of hope. Sometimes intelligence is defined not by the answers you have but the questions you ask and when and who to ask them of. Sam's insightfulness never fails.
Thanks to Lauren for her skillful editing too.

Peanut Brittle
2 c. raw, shelled peanuts
1 c. sugar
1 c. white corn syrup
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
Mix peanuts, sugar and syrup in iron skillet and cook until light brown in color. Peanuts will begin to pop. Remove from fire and add 1 teaspoon soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Stir quickly and pour onto buttered 9 x 13 inch pan. Break into small pieces when cool.
Note: Brittle can be poured out onto a buttered brown paper bag. When cool, just drop bag on couner to break apart. Be sure bag is buttered real good...

In response to the announcement from Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) that she is pregnant ~

Regarding a story that appeared in
The Post-Star
on Dec. 6: "Rep. Gillibrand announces she is pregnant."
First of all, I must admit that I am a male chauvinist and that there are, thankfully, differences between men and women. There are many occupations suitable for women and their physical attributes. Carrying a weapon while serving in the Armed Forces and firefighting are not suitable lines of work for women to prove that they are physically equal to men. How many male police officers feel comfortable with a 100 pound female backup?
And now, I have to add serving in the U.S. House and Senate as an occupation that may not be suitable for women.
Ms. Gillibrand's current pregnancy makes a strong case for my opinion. Ms. Gillibrand was elected to serve her constituency, and while she is away from her elected office she cannot perform those duties. The taxpayers who were duped into voting for her will have to pay for her medical benefits.
Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Taxpayer, Ms. Gillibrand receives excellent health benefits, courtesy of her constituents. We will be without representation in Congress for a time leading up to and following the child's birth. There will be times when she and the new baby will visit doctors. You can add those days to the total that she will not be serving her constituents.
The current base salary (2006) for members of the House and Senate is $165,200 per year. I wonder if Ms. Gillibrand will do the right thing and reimburse the U.S. Treasury in the amount of $452.60, her daily salary, for each day that she is unable to perform her elected duties. For some reason, I doubt it.

Beef from Safeway may have had salmonella: USDA
The Agriculture Department said fresh ground beef products contaminated with multi-drug resistant Salmonella may have been ground and later sold at Safeway Inc stores in five states.
USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the products were sold at supermarket chain Safeway Inc in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico between September 19 and November 5, 2007.
"This alert is being issued after an exhaustive and continuing investigation whereby FSIS could not identify specific establishments, lots and products that would be subject to a recall," the agency said.
"FSIS has no reason to believe that these products are still available for sale in commerce," it said.
FSIS said the alert was issued after epidemiological investigations and a study conducted by the California Department of Public Health, Arizona Department of Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
These health agencies determined there was a connection between the ground beef products and 38 illnesses reported in the five states.
Salmonella infection typically causes diarrhea, accompanied by abdominal cramps and fever. It can be life-threatening in infants, people with poor underlying health and those with weakened immune systems.

N.Y. man shocks neighbors with gory Santa
A New York City man has once again shocked his neighbors by putting up a gory display of Santa Claus crawling out of a chimney.
The New York Post said Sunday Joel Krupnik, who has gained neighborhood notoriety for his outrageous Christmas displays, recently added a bloody Santa to his expanding holiday resume.
"I'm terrified to bring my granddaughter by here," Rhoda Schatz, one of Krupnik's neighbors, said of the newest display. "It's horrific."
Krupnik's neighbors previously forced him to remove a Christmas display with a bloody Santa holding a severed doll head.
Then last year, Krupnik pleaded guilty to smearing a 13-year-old girl with dog feces after the teenager's dog relieved itself outside his home.
"I did it!" Krupnik was quoted by the Post as saying at the time. "I'm tired of these people not picking up after their dogs. I took the mess and I rubbed it in her back."

American Indian voices not heard at forum
Posted: December 21, 2007
by: David Melmer / Indian Country Today
RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Democratic Brown and Black Forum with the presidential candidates held on Dec. 1 in Des Moines, Iowa, fulfilled its purpose, but American Indians did not have a voice and were mentioned only briefly by one candidate.
Ten people from South Dakota attended the forum and were among a large number of people who were non-white. The crowd consisted mainly of Muslims, Hispanics and blacks, and the general climate of the meeting was said to be positive.
The American Indian delegation from South Dakota comprised the only group of indigenous attendees. None of them was selected to ask questions of the candidates. The only candidate who acknowledged Indians at all was Rep. Dennis Kucinich, according to Mary Ann Bear Heels McCowan, a Lakota political activist.
While American Indians make up only 1 percent of the population, because of their unique involvement with the federal government and its fiduciary responsibility, the expectation is that most candidates should develop an American Indian policy.

The Fetal Position Unwinds Itself
It is beginning to look like there is a split in the ideology of a portion of the Republican base.
Many of the Social Conservatives (read Religious Right) are on the side of more regulation by government and less pandering to corporations and a renewed focus on the plights of the middle and lower middle classes.
The old Reaganesque mantra against big government and for trickling down the bounties of the financial elite to the unwashed anti-abortion and anti-gay masses is losing its lustre.
In my opinion, this is the predictable result of years of the Social Conservative push for the Holy Grail of abortion and homosexuality, neither of which has a damn thing to do with administrating a nation. While the Social Conservatives poured their political resources into their pet issues, they elected Republicans who have been busily robbing St. Peter and St. Paul to pay their fat cat friends in corner offices.
Many of us have tried for years to tell the Social Conservative movement that it had its eye on the wrong ball. They are slow learners. They needed Enron and Katrina and Iraq and soaring oil prices and pollution and scores of other travesties wrought by grinning anti-abortion and anti-gay Republican politicians to bring the point home.
The religious nutjobs targeted two "sins" with all of their political might in a nation having more sins that you can wag a self-righteous finger at. Now that some of those many sins are blatantly hitting The Faithful in their pocketbooks, they are beginning to pay attention. Fetuses and fags ain't bringin' home the bacon anymore.
This places the Republican Party in a quandary. Whereas in recent years it has been able to attract Social Conservative votes with rhetoric against women's rights and homosexuality (and then go about its first order of business---supporting Big Business), it must now find a way to attract many of the same votes by adding rhetoric against Big Business.
The Creationists and their pulpit-driven brethren seem to be (horrors) evolving toward a Populist ideology which the Republican Party hasn't offered in more than a century. It will be interesting to see how the residual radioactivity of Huckabee's candidacy (which has thrown the Populist notion into the Republican voter's mix) will adjust Republican Party rhetoric in the coming years.

Harrods offering $83 a jar honey
The ritzy London department store Harrods is offering a reportedly healthy type of honey for $83 a jar, possibly the highest cost for honey in the world.
While the price for little more than four ounces of Life Mel honey may seem excessive, Harrods said it has already been endorsed by pop singer Kylie Minogue and film actress Sienna Miller, Sky News reported Sunday.
Harrods press and product manager Andre Dang said the honey has been used as both a sweet spread and as a health product.
"This is the newest product that has just launched," Dang said.
"People are tending to use it more as an alternative therapy rather than spreading it on toast."
The honey's reported health benefits may be due to the fact it is made without artificial ingredients and was produced by bees fed herbs such as Siberian ginseng and echinacea.
Sky News said because of the honey's reported health benefits, jars of the costly product will not simply adorn Harrods' shelves, but will be sold in the store's pharmacy.
Crucified Santa is one man's message
A home owner in Bremerton, Wash., adorned his lawn with a crucified Santa Claus doll to send a public message about the commercialization of Christmas.
While Art Conrad said he intended to use the bizarre image to draw attention to the holiday's growing emphasis on consumerism, several Bremerton residents didn't pick up on the message, the Kitsap (Wash.) Sun reported Friday.
"I don't really know what to think. I know it's about God but Santa has nothing to do with it," Jake Tally said.
Conrad said he got the idea from a story he read about Japanese merchants who placed Santa on a cross as part of a mix-up regarding Christmas symbols. Conrad, who even featured the crucified Santa on his Christmas cards, told the Sun that led him to make his political statement.
"Santa has been perverted from who he started out to be," he said. "Now he's the person being used by corporations to get us to buy more stuff."

Gregorian choir gives peace in chants
Stanford University Prof. William Mahrt in California has spent the last 44 years trying to preserve the 1,500-year-old tradition of Gregorian chant.
The haunting a capella melodies, which are actually recitations of Latin liturgical texts, probably originated in Jerusalem around the 4th century and had their heyday in the 6th century under Pope Gregory I, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday.
But after the 1960s, when the Catholic church began allowing priests to face their congregations and conduct services in languages other than Latin, the chants fell out of favor, the newspaper said. Many churches simply felt they were not suitable for modern churchgoing audiences.
Mahrt, 68, rejects that idea and has devoted his life to preserving the art form.
For more than four decades, he has directed the St. Ann choir, an ensemble of 20 men and women devoted to Gregorian chant, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto, Calif. When he is not directing the unique choir, he spends his time traveling the world to promote chant or adding to his priceless collection of books on the subject.
Gregorian chant "adds something beautiful," Mahrt told the Chronicle. "A religious service ... Should be beautiful because beauty is an attribute of God."
Obama, Huckabee tout change
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Republican former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee Sunday touted their candidacies for U.S. president as opportunities for change.
Obama, speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation," said his idea of change is not only in governmental policies but in leadership.
"And what right now the American people are desperate for is a president that they can trust, who's going to promote accountability and transparency in our government, who is going to take a new approach on things like foreign policy, talking not just to our friends but also to our enemies," Obama said. "And that's the kind of leadership I'm providing, and that's why we are doing so well in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina and, I think, ultimately across the country."
Also on the program, Huckabee said he is "out to change the Republican Party."
"It needs changing," he said. "It needs to be inclusive of all those people across America for whom this party should stand, and it's not just the people in Wall Street, it's the people on Main Street."

Take your own advice.
Britain set to release secret UFO files
he British government will soon release previously classified details regarding hundreds of reported sightings of unidentified flying objects.
The Sunday Telegraph said Sunday that this coming spring, the Defense Ministry will release to the general public 160 files about alleged UFO sightings.
Since the British government department began keeping records about the unusual reports in 1950, more than 10,000 sightings have been recorded.
With officials failing to explain 5 percent of those sightings, a growing number of Freedom of Information requests prompted the release of the classified information.
A former head of the Defense Ministry UFO project told the newspaper that no matter what an individual believes regarding UFOs, the released files should prove to be interesting reading.
"Whatever people think about UFOs, these documents are fascinating and show how the MoD has researched and investigated this mystery for nearly 60 years, without an answer," former department official Nick Pope said.
Presidential hopefuls reflect divided GOP
The Republicans chasing the presidential nomination are indicative of a growing divide in the U.S. political party, it was reported Sunday.
The Washington Post reported the different focuses of candidates such as former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney show the Republican Party is vastly divided.
New Hampshire Rep. Fran Wendelboe is one of numerous Republicans who told the newspaper they remain unconvinced which candidate is right for the party's future.
"Republicans," Wendelboe said, "are all over the place. They are looking for the perfect candidate but just don't have it."
Republican lawmakers have blamed that lack of one solid candidate on the glaring flaws in the front-runners' campaigns.
An unidentified chairman of one of those campaigns told the Post the Republican Party itself is simply ceasing to be.
"There is no party here anymore," the veteran party activist said. "It's just a shell."
Flock of birds mysteriously killed in N.Y.
Experts are trying to determine what killed a flock of purple martins that fell from the sky in New York City.
The birds scared residents of a Staten Island neighborhood as they dropped, The New York Daily News reported.
"It was like Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds,'" said Donna Toti. "Birds were just falling out of the sky. They would land, lie on the ground, flap and die."
Marc Zurlo, another resident, said he saw birds flying erratically, "as if they were drunk," before they fell.
Officials said that some of the birds appeared to have died in mid-air.
The Health Department collected the carcasses to be tested. The birds appeared to be all the same species and members of a single flock, suggesting that they may have eaten something lethal.
Zurlo said that another theory in the neighborhood was that the birds had come into contact with ammonia.
Predicting That I Don't Know Squat
Remember when I wrote long ago that, per my observation, Huckabee could become more than an also-ran because of his speaking style and his appeal to the religious conservatives? And that it wasn't a prediction, but a "heads-up" based on my observation? Probably not. The only reason I remember it is because I wrote it.
And remember (more recently) when I wrote that I had written the heads-up a long time ago, and that it wasn't a prediction but a heads-up, and an Anonymous poster then responded to me with vitriol? Probably not. The only reason that I remember it is because I wrote it and the Anonymous poster responded with pointless accusations dripping with hatred.
So here we are several weeks later and Huckabee is in the lead in some polls. He is a good speaker (that's an observation). He has attracted a base (that's another observation). Will he implode now that he is in the spotlight? I don't know (clearly, this is, again, not a prediction).
Unlike War Dog, I ain't predictin' nuthin' 'bout nuthin'. I am merely sitting in the cheap seats watching the show as closely as I am able.
Will McCain come to the fore? Who the fuck knows? The Republican fiasco is up for grabs. My guess at this point (not a prediction!!) is that Giuliani will fade. Romney will fade...maybe. He has the Empty Reagan Suit appeal that could go the distance. I hope that all of the Republican candidates fade to black, or grey, and leave the least of the worst standing, but that's a hope, not a prediction.
On the Democratic side, it's difficult to imagine (at this point) that Hillary will ever fade beyond grey. Obama is already grey, so it's difficult to imagine that he will glow (at this point). Edwards has the same Pretty Boy appeal to Democrats that Romney has to Republicans, plus he has a populist rhetoric which might cross party lines. Or he might fade to black.
Waiting in the wings are Gore and Bloomberg, neither of whom might announce a candidacy. If they do, no one knows if Bloomberg would go Independent or not. But if they do announce their candidacies, all bets are off. Not that I have a bet.
(Note to my Anonymous detractor: If you can find a prediction in any of the above, you are an idiot.)
It is nice, in an observational sense, to have a presidential race rife with uncertainty. I feel slightly less scammed by the process when there are several possibilities instead of only two.
Personally, I hope that Gore announces. And I hope that he announces by citing a huge electorate that has petitioned for his candidacy after Hillary has faded in the polls and after there is no clear front runner representing either political party.
But that's a long-shot hope and not a prediction.

Hark! The Harold angel pings!
Haythem identified his son from what was left of his shoes.
I interviewed Khalaf on Nov. 30, in a small conference room inside a hotel in Istanbul, Turkey. In one of the most in-depth collection of testimonials to date regarding Blackwater, Khalaf was among five witnesses and victims flown from Baghdad to meet with Susan Burke, William O'Neil and their team of lawyers and investigators. The team is suing Blackwater on behalf of the victims of the Sept. 16 shooting.
That lethal incident was a watershed moment that brought intense scrutiny to the problems caused by private contractors, which have effectively operated with impunity as they've brought violence and widespread ill will to U.S. operations in Iraq.
With experience learned from a similar lawsuit filed two years ago against U.S. contractors implicated in the infamous Abu Ghraib prison scandal, Burke O'Neil is perhaps the only law firm in the nation that could so quickly gather eyewitness and victim accounts, make the right legal arguments and begin the process of holding Blackwater to account.
Sadly, this lawsuit may be the only way that the victims and their families receive remotely adequate compensation for their losses.
Khalaf recounted the events of that day to a hushed room of lawyers with laptops. He watched, he said, as the Blackwater convoy made the U-turn toward the street where he stood directing traffic. As the convoy stopped, Khalaf watched as a large man with a mustache standing atop the third car fired several shots in the air. Khalaf turned back toward the Yarmouk road to see what might have spurred the shooting and heard a woman yell, "My son! My son!" He ran three cars back to a white sedan to find a woman holding a young man slumped over and covered with blood.
The man was Ahmed, a 20-year-old medical student at the top of his class, and the woman his mother, Mohasin, a successful dermatologist and mother of three.
"I tried to help the young man, but his mother was holding him so tight," said Khalaf. "I raised my left arm high in the air to try to signal to the convoy to stop the shooting," he said, thinking that it would respond to such a gesture by a police officer. He described how he crouched by the car, his right arm reaching inside, his head out and left arm up in the air, signaling to the convoy, his gun secure in its holster. Then the mother was shot dead before his eyes.
The shooting then turned heavier, Khalaf said, his eyes red-brimmed and serious. He hid behind the police traffic booth, but shots came directly at him, hitting the adjacent traffic light and booth's door, and he fled back across Yarmouk road to safety behind a hill. Along with a few hundred others, he stayed there as the chaos unfolded, watching as the helicopters circling above the street started shooting at those below.
Fifteen minutes later, the four-car convoy continued around the square and drove away. Amid the wreckage, colorful clouds billowed into the air from the convoy's parting gift -- multicolored smoke bombs.
In remarks prepared for delivery before a congressional hearing in October, Blackwater chairman Erik Prince claimed company guards "returned fire at threatening targets," including "men with AK-47s firing on the convoy" and "approaching vehicles that appeared to be suicide car bombers." Prince's prepared testimony also asserted that one of the vehicles had been disabled by the "enemy fire" and had to be towed. And he contended that the helicopters never fired on those below. (These remarks were never actually delivered; the Department of Justice launched an investigation the day before the hearing and asked the committee not to discuss the details of the Sept. 16 incident. Prince's remarks were subsequently reported in the Washington Post.)
But the accounts of Khalaf and others contradict each of Prince's assertions. Khalaf, who was there before the shooting began, said he never saw anyone fire on or approach the convoy. He watched as all four cars drove away as the 15-minute shooting spree ended, and huddled in fear as the helicopters began firing. He thought the helicopters would start spraying those who were hiding behind the hill for safety from the street-level threat.
Khalaf's observations are backed up by official accounts, including leaked FBI findings, which concluded that at least 14 of the 17 shooting deaths were unjustified, and statements by military officials disputing Blackwater's claim that its guards had been fired upon or under any sort of attack. The Iraq government's own investigation found no evidence that the guards had been provoked or attacked, and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's spokesperson called the shootings "deliberate murder."
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=7668
These are not isolated events. In October, the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released its analysis of Blackwater's own internal reporting since 2005, which found 195 shooting incidents in the last two years, including 160 in which Blackwater employees fired the first shot. And Blackwater is not the only problem. An estimated 20,000 to 35,000 private security contractors operate in Iraq, without adequate oversight, without adequate training and without adequate legal sanctions to hold abusers accountable.

Remember when I wrote long ago that, per my observation, Huckabee could become more than an also-ran because of his speaking style and his appeal to the religious conservatives? And that it wasn't a prediction, but a "heads-up" based on my observation?

Yes, I do remember your observations about Huckabee on the old blog and more recently.
Based on Gore's recent announcements and speeches, it does sound like he has ruled out running for office again.
It does make one wonder what America and the world would be like now if we had President Gore in the White House.
Which Republican will win in the primaries?
How about comparing Clinton and Huckabee?
------------
"Romney: Huckabee Another Bill Clinton?"
Excerpt:
So, you have a Southern Baptist minister who opposes abortion, stem cell research, same-sex marriage and civil unions, and Mitt Romney is comparing him to Bill Clinton?
You have to wonder how this will go over with the Evangelical voters, particularly coming from Romney, who has flip-flopped on all of those very issues: abortion, stem cell research. and gay rights.
It seems that Romney is so afraid of Huckabee that he is willing to alienate the dedicated social conservatives in his quest for the presidency.
Those "value voters" might want to ask if that's Romney's plan in the general election too.

The Democrats and Republicans have made it clear that they are the corporate parties and they only represent the interests of the capitalists and the billionaires. The new energy bill is another long term payment plan that will be required of working class people while the billionaires continue to collect.

The Secret Library of Hope
The Secret Library of Hope
By Rebecca Solnit
Excerpt:
Hope is an orientation, a way of scanning the wall for cracks -- or building ladders -- rather than staring at its obdurate expanse.
It's a worldview, but one informed by experience and the knowledge that people have power; that the power people possess matters; that change has been made by populist movements and dedicated individuals in the past; and that it will be again.
Dissent in this country has become largely a culture of diagnosis rather than prescription, of describing what is wrong with them, rather than what is possible for us.
But even in English, a robust minority tradition can be found. There are a handful of books that I think of as "the secret library of hope." None of them deny the awful things going on, but they approach them as if the future is still open to intervention rather than an inevitability.
In describing how the world actually gets changed, they give us the tools to change it again.
Here, then, are some of the regulars in my secret political library of hope, along with some new candidates.

its still the economy, stupid*
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The economy's in for some more gloomy news in the coming week, analysts predict, which will offset recent positive numbers on retail sales, consumer spending and jobs.
*"The economy, stupid," was a phrase in American politics widely used during Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign against George H.W. Bush. For a time, Bush was considered unbeatable because of foreign policy developments such as the end of the Cold War and the Persian Gulf War. The phrase, coined by Clinton campaign strategist James Carville, refers to the notion that Clinton was a better choice because Bush had not adequately addressed the economy, which was undergoing a recession at the time.
In order to keep the campaign on message, Carville hung a sign in Bill Clinton's Little Rock campaign headquarters with the following three points:
Change vs. more of the same
The economy, stupid
Don't forget health care.
Although the sign was intended for an internal audience of campaign workers, the phrase became something of a slogan for the Clinton election campaign. Clinton's campaign used the recession to successfully unseat George H.W. Bush, whose approval ratings had been in the 80% range one year prior.
the robber barons set their sites on france
PARIS (AP) — President Nicolas Sarkozy has sprinkled the parched French economy with dozens of little enticements since his election in May, all paving the way for an assault on the crux of France's woes: the labor laws.
France is in the "stone age of labor relations," says his budget minister, Eric Woerth. At negotiations with unions and employers last week, Sarkozy pledged to drag the country into the globalized age in the coming weeks and months.

More fallout from the subprime implosion.
An Associated Press analysis of financial data from the country's largest card issuers also found that the greatest rise was among accounts more than 90 days in arrears.
Experts say these signs of the deterioration of finances of many households are partly a byproduct of the subprime mortgage crisis and could spell more trouble ahead for an already sputtering economy.

Conservatives turn on Rudy
Conservatives turn on Rudy for being too neo-conservative
Now there's a twist. The conservatives are concerned that Rudy is too much a neo-con, too much a conservative. The writer is from the George Bush School of Government, literally, and is writing in the American Conservative magazine:
Giuliani’s tendency to conflate all terrorist groups—whether Islamist or not and whether they attack the United States or just allies like Israel—led Fred Kaplan of Slate to dub him the “anti-statesman.” Sending him and his team to the White House might actually ignite World War IV.

Rant
The most stupid, hurtful myth I read again and again is the one about some people being leeches, welfare queens, essentially useless human beings. It's idiocy. Anyone who values a Dick Cheney or George W. Bush (suck all the money and air out of the room person without contributing a damn thing) over a befuddled family member who can't make a living in the current economic environment needs to spend a bit more time thinking things through. You may well be just as useless as them tomorrow. Right wingers, stop patting yourself on the back for getting along by virtue of your efforts. You may not be as useful to the truly useless, greedy fucks in the very near future.
Happy holidays, y'all!
End rant.

good mornin toni
well its december 24th and as is tradition, its time for me to start shopping. this is what happens to people who hate to shop.
my wife has laid in a supply of cookies that should last a millineum. we always start out with lets just make a few and end up with a lot more.
christmas eve is traditionally a fish meal. there was a time when we would have what was called the meal of seven fishes, it was an italian tradtion to celebrate the seven sacraments. but people have passed on or moved away. this year i'm making bouillibase. i got my stock made last night and got my scallops, shrimp, cod, and mussels. christmas day we'll be doing lasagna rollups, where you take a short lasagna noodle, layer with filling, and then roll it up and put it in a pan. we're going to do spinach and vegetables for my vegetarian son and sausage and ground veal for me and let the others pick what they like. all in all a lot simpler then what we used to do.
Credit card payments falling behind
i wonder if the banks thought that by ramrodding that evil bankruptcy law thru it would somehow save them. the way i look at it, is that at some point, when the well is dry, the well is dry, and no law is going to change that.

Mr Peltz, who runs the hedge fund Trian Fund Management and who has a 4.5 per cent stake in Cadbury, sent a letter to the company on Tuesday, demanding that it improve its financial performance significantly next year.
Mr Peltz threatened to consider "alternatives" if profit margins did not improve quickly. Analysts say this could include either a proxy battle for board seats or a takeover bid.
Leading Cadbury investors yesterday said they supported Mr Peltz.
