The last live Seder On Sunday
First off, what is not ending on SUnday 5/10:
+ This blog. This blog is going nowhere, so please, no panicking.
+ The SammyCam. In the short term at the very least Seder v. Maron will keep the SammyCam busy. I may start doing more live video shows- don't know.
+ My radio career. I may end up as Air America's 3-6 pm host. I really have no sense as to the chances of that happening. If not, there may be other opportunities at AAR or at other liberal talk networks. Don't know that those opportunities would happen soon or months from now, but I love doing liberal talk radio and one way or another I'll make it back on air.
+ My association with Air America. I continue to serve as the online editor of AirAmerica.com.
What is ending Sunday 5/10:
My Seder On Sunday contract. This will be the 52nd Seder On Sunday and the last live Air America Seder On Sunday Show. There will be two more Seder On Sunday's of mostly all new Book SHow interviews. Jeffery Feldman, Rick Perlstein, Elizabeth Warren are just a few of the folks who will be featured on these shows.
The neccesity of my watching SUnday bobble head shows. If I never see Tim Russert do a roundtable with his cocktail party freinds again until Myla has kids it'll be too soon. I can recite to you word for word what you'll hear on his show this weekend. It is the most predictable our of television short of the old emergency test pattern.
Please, if you haven't done so, sign up for the Seder Reader email list to your left if you haven't already done so. I'll keep you updated!
Thanks for the tweet, Sam
You get the new media. You are my hero and I am so pleased you have such a good attitude.

Lucille,
every new link, including link tags I use all day long or embeds require a connection to external resources. The more content we load that way the longer it takes for the whole page to load. Posting content from external sites with a commentary on the piece is better. If it is without commentary then we are left wondering why you posted it. The Tupac vid meant little to me until I heard how your kid played it for you and your reaction to it.
I know how to find Tupac but it's what you add to it that makes it worth posting.
That said, I enjoy your posts always.

re: my Vista box won't play you
Do you have iTunes on that box? I never cared for their (Live365) player and used the option to make it play through iTunes. I'll stick my neck out and "assume" it's the same for Window users. On the player there's a Setup button. Click that and you can tell it to use another .mp3 player.
From what I've read most PC users prefer WinAmp.

Sam ..
Not to bust your chops, Sweetie, but it'll be 5/11. It's yet another date I will mark as one that the management of Air America has pissed me the f*ck off. I can't tell you how sad I am that the Management at AAR has had their thumbs up their asses with regard to offering you a better position in the line up. They treat you like crap .. and that really pisses me off beyond words have the ability to describe.
I guess my attitude is - Fuck Them. If they don't pull their heads out of their asses, I wish you a long and prosperous career at a place like NovaM - a place where your wit and intelligence will be appreciated. And frankly, I don't feel that is Air America any more. I suppose an argument could be made if AAR management gets their heads together and hire you for Randi's former spot, they might redeem themselves in my eyes. But frankly, I am so miffed that I don't even think that would salvage those people in my eyes.
Regardless, personally Sam, I want to thank you for opening the original Majority Report Radio site. I met the love of my life there and I don't know that we would have ever met any other way without your blog. For that, I will forever remain in your debt.

Ya .. surprise, surprise .. a member of the "ruling elite" has ties to the Myanmar junta .. Qu'elle suprise!
Coordinator of GOP convention quits after Newsweek report on his firm's ties to Myanmar junta
"The man picked by the John McCain campaign to run the 2008 Republican National Convention resigned Saturday after a report that his lobbying firm used to represent the military regime in Myanmar.
Doug Goodyear resigned as convention coordinator and issued a two sentence statement:
"Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a distraction in this campaign. I continue to strongly support John McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign."
Goodyear, chief executive of lobbying firm DCI Group, resigned a few hours after Newsweek posted a story posted online that the company was paid $348,000 in 2002 and 2003 to represent Myanmar's junta.
"We respect Mr. Goodyear's decision, and look forward to the convention in September," said Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the McCain campaign. ..."

I started lurking at the blog shortly after and finally posted a few months later ... so I have been a fan of Sam for a long time, his radio for a slightly shorter time and the blog - lurking since June 2004, posting since August 2004.

Hillary told this guy "we're going to cut your legs off"
Different Side Of Clinton Seen By One Tennessean
In a front-page story in Thursday's edition of The Hill, the newspaper covering Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis, D-Tenn., was reported to have turned down an invitation to meet with presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.
Davis was among a group of so-far-uncommitted Democratic "superdelegates" who were approached in the last day or so by the Clinton camp in the hopes of garnering their endorsement.
"He says that's not true," U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., told The Daily News about Davis' refusal to meet with Clinton. "But that's on the front page of The Hill. I told him he might as well go ahead and endorse Barack (Obama), because once Hillary sees that he's a dead man anyway."
Frosty ties
That sentiment from Cooper is the product of a long and famously sticky relationship he's had with the former first lady, one that has been the focus of sporadic national media attention over the years. Before he came to Memphis Friday at the request of U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., to give a speech at the Shelby County Democratic Party's Kennedy Day Dinner, Cooper talked at length with The Daily News about some of that history.
Cooper, the state chairman of Obama's campaign in Tennessee, said his speech at the Holiday Inn-University of Memphis would focus on the 2008 presidential contest in general terms. But a look at his dealings with the first lady in the 1990s helps put his current political stance into context.
The year was 1993, and the focus was on comprehensive health care reform. The Clinton administration was mounting a full-court press in persuading congressional leaders to sign on to a health care bill championed by the White House.
Cooper had a health care bill of his own.
"They turned up their nose at my bill, and that's fine. But then they constructed this secret 500-person task force to draft a whole new bill - and I knew it would go nowhere," Cooper said. "So I went privately to the White House to warn (Hillary Clinton). No publicity. No nothing.
"She brought in a camera to record the meeting. And she has not released the memos on this meeting. She immediately declared war on me. I warned her we didn't even have the votes (for her bill) in our subcommittee. She said, 'We're going to (politically) cut your legs off.' I've never gotten such a cold reception as I got from her."
Cooper said the first lady set up a war room to undercut Cooper, who was gearing up for a run at the U.S. Senate in 1994. And a former television news reporter from Nashville was tasked with leading that war room, he said.
"Bill Clinton couldn't have been nicer to me during this period," said Cooper, who still keeps an old photograph of himself that was taken during a visit to the first lady's West Wing office in the White House during the 1990s. "I went running with him. I played golf with him. I was asked to hang out in the White House with him.
"I respect Hillary supporters because they haven't had the chance to get to know her like I have. She does not have the political skills of her husband. Or Barack. You need somebody who can bring people together. She criticized my health care bill because it wouldn't achieve universal coverage until 1998. Well, today we'd be celebrating the 10th anniversary of having every American with insurance."
Still in it
The Clinton campaign, meanwhile, declined to respond to Cooper's remarks. When asked, some of her prominent local supporters still affirm their commitment to her, despite a widening lead in the primary race for Obama.
Memphis City Council member Myron Lowery, one of the Democratic superdelegates from Tennessee already committed to Clinton, said he had not felt any recent pressure to shift his allegiance.
"I am still firm with Clinton. I made that commitment, and as long as she's there, I will be there supporting her," he said. "Right now I've made my commitment, and that's where I am."
Another staunch Clinton backer is former Tennessee Gov. Ned McWherter. He's long been a close friend, sounding board and prominent backer of both Clintons.
Speaking with The Daily News, McWherter said Clinton's political skills would be put to good use in reforming the nation's current health care system.
"With her leadership and her knowledge of health care, I believe she could put a good health care program together and pass it in the House and Senate," he said. "We can all talk about having a health care program, but to go to Washington and get legislation on the books and make it real - that's a different proposition. And I believe Hillary possesses that leadership and has that commitment to develop and pass a health care bill for all Americans."
Cooper, meanwhile, is insistent that the country needs to metaphorically turn the page by electing Obama as president.
"I was just with him. ... It's incredible the appeal he has," Cooper said. "We walked from a townhouse near Capitol Hill up to the Capitol to vote. And kids were screaming. He's like a rock star. It's fabulous.
"Democrats would be crazy to throw this away. There's like a million new voters registered in North Carolina and Indiana. Nobody else has been able to do that. The Clintons had eight years. You don't get a do-over in American politics. They had eight good years. Now it's time to turn the page. We need to change."

Judge: Lawsuit against Halliburton by woman claiming rape in Iraq can go to trial
Staff
AP News
May 09, 2008 21:34 EST
A woman who said she was raped by co-workers while employed by a contractor in Iraq can take her claims to trial, a federal judge ruled Friday.
Jamie Leigh Jones filed a federal lawsuit last year, saying she was attacked while working for a Halliburton Co. subsidiary at Camp Hope, Baghdad, in 2005. Her lawsuit claims that after she endured harassment from some of the men where she lived in coed barracks, she was drugged and raped by Halliburton and KBR firefighters.
Jones, a former Conroe resident, said a KBR representative imprisoned her in a shipping container for a day so she wouldn't report the assault.
Attorneys for Halliburton, KBR and other subsidiaries that have been sued have disputed Jones' allegations. KBR split from Halliburton last year.
Washington-based attorney Stephanie Morris said her client is pleased that she will have the opportunity to bring attention to the case.
"We are extremely excited we can now go forward and present the case in the public arena and make the public aware of what been going on overseas in Iraq. Halliburton has ratified gross sexual conduct by their failure to act," Morris said.
The Associated Press usually does not identify people alleging sexual assault, but Jones' face and name have been broadcast in media reports and on her own Web site.
Halliburton's attorneys argued in March that the employment agreement Jones signed says any claims made by an employee against the company that in any way touch on his or her employment have to be settled through arbitration, in which a third party would resolve the case through a private hearing process.
Halliburton's attorneys argued in March that the employment agreement Jones signed says any claims made by an employee against the company that in any way touch on his or her employment have to be settled through arbitration, in which a third party would resolve the case through a private hearing process.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison says the court will not compel the plaintiff to go to arbitration for her claims related to being assaulted. However, those claims cannot be pursued until other workplace-related claims are arbitrated.
"We entirely conceded those could go to arbitration," Morris said.
W. Carl Jordan, an attorney for Halliburton, did not return a phone call to his office and an e-mail on Friday night. A company spokeswoman said no one was immediately available to comment.
In December, Jones detailed her allegations to a congressional subcommittee. Several members of Congress have criticized the Justice, State and Defense departments for how the case was handled.
Congress has pressured the Bush administration to force U.S. contractors in Iraq to offer better protection for their employees from crimes.

Too bad
I was hoping I was wrong.
Although Sam was wrong about Hillary and took some cheap low shots which reflect a base animalistic mind set, a depraved world view, and a chillingly soulless quality, still-I always enjoyed seeing the poster of him and Janeane when I got off the subway on the phone booth.
Despite Sam's many, many character flaws you could see in the faces of Sam and Janeane on this poster all that is kind and nice and real in liberals.
Or maybe it was airbrushed-who knows....still-good poster.
Anyhoozle-somewhere in medialand someone should see that Sam's talents have been wasted on the fading shipwreck known as AAR and lift him to a higher plane of media reality. I still think he would do well in a sitcom-as long as he's not too fat. Take heroin, crack and opium just keep off the oreos Sammy-some things are not forgivable-yuck.

Obama overtakes Clinton in
Obama overtakes Clinton in superdelegate endorsements for the first time.
STEPHEN OHLEMACHER
AP News
May 10, 2008 14:57 EST
Barack Obama erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among superdelegates Saturday when he added more endorsements from the group of Democrats who will decide the party's nomination for president.
Obama added superdelegates from Utah, Ohio and the Virgin Islands, enabling him to surpass Clinton's total for the first time in the campaign. He had picked up nine endorsements Friday.
The milestone is important because Clinton would need to win over the superdelegates by a wide margin to claim the nomination. They are a group that Clinton owned before the first caucus, when she was able to cash in on the popularity of the Clinton brand among the party faithful.
Those party insiders, however, have been steadily streaming to Obama since he started posting wins in early voting states.

the charge inciting a riot
http://www.lawyers.com/ask_a_lawyer/q_and_a_archive/view_archive/index.p...
Q. What does the charge inciting a riot mean and what will happen?
-- Anonymous
A. Under federal law, a riot is a public disturbance involving an act of violence by one or more persons who are assembled in a group of at least three people. The act of violence must be one that presents a clear and present danger of injury to another person or damage to another person's property. Threatening to commit a violent act in such a group situation that could injure another person or damage property is also considered a riot if one of the persons in the group has the ability at the time to carry out the threatened violence.
Inciting a riot applies to a person who organizes, encourages, or participates in a riot. It can apply to one who urges or instigates others to riot. It does not apply to someone who merely advocates ideas or expresses beliefs, if those ideas and beliefs do not involve advocating violence.
The federal crime of inciting a riot carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison a fine.
State and local governments also have laws that make it a crime to incite a riot. The penalties range from fines only to jail time. It is important that the law, even if only a municipal ordinance, specify the conduct that that is prohibited with sufficient definiteness that ordinary people can understand what conduct is prohibited.
If you have been charged with inciting a riot, I recommend you seek out a criminal defense lawyer in your area who can tell you exactly what conduct the law prohibits in your jurisdiction, and advise you as whether the law is subject to a challenge on the grounds that it is unconstitutionally vague--either because it fails to sufficiently set forth what conduct is prohibited, or fails to set minimal guidelines for police to use in enforcing the law.

Missouri and Oklahoma Storms Kill 11
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Severe-Weather.html?_r=1&hp&oref=s...
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: May 10, 2008
Filed at 11:30 p.m. ET
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A tornado that spun across the Oklahoma-Missouri border killed several people as severe storms raked the nation's heart Saturday, taking at least 11 lives, mangling buildings and trapping people in rubble in the storm-weary region.
At least six people were killed as the tornado flattened the northeastern Oklahoma town of Picher before the funnel struck about 15 miles away near Seneca, Mo., and killed at least three, authorities said.
The death toll in Oklahoma could climb, said state Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten. The tornado in Picher -- a depressed and pollution-scarred mining town that many residents had already fled -- caused major damage in a 20-block area, she said.
''I know they are going through the rubble, trying to find people missing,'' she said. ''There are numerous injuries.''
At least five people died in southwestern Missouri after the storms plowed through, the National Weather Service said. Three people died after the Picher tornado hit near Seneca, about 15 miles away in Newton County, said meteorologist Bill Davis.
Other tornadoes were reported near McAlester and Haywood in Pittsburg County and in rural Pushmataha County, both in southeastern Oklahoma.
Television footage showed some destroyed outbuildings and damaged homes west of McAlester and near Haywood. At a glass plant southwest of McAlester, the storm apparently picked up a trailer and slammed it down on garbage bins.
''These are rural areas that we are in,'' Pittsburg County Undersheriff Richard Sexton told KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City. ''These are good people coming together at this time.''
In storm-weary Arkansas, a tornado collapsed a home and a business, and there were reports of a few people trapped in buildings, said Weather Service meteorologist John Robinson.
Central Park Elementary School in the northwest Arkansas city of Bentonville had roof and window damage, and damage was also reported at Pine Creek Center School.
The storms remained active into the evening as they swept eastward, with watches and warnings abundant across a wide swath of the Plains and South.
Rescuers were trying to free a man trapped in his vehicle in western Tennessee after a tree fell on it during thunderstorms, Memphis firefighters said.
Tornadoes killed 13 people in Arkansas on Feb. 5, and another seven were killed in an outbreak May 2. In between was freezing weather, persistent rain and river flooding that damaged residences has slowed farmers in their planting.

Right on the boarder of Oklahoma and Missourri.
He signed off about noon pacific because of the lightning, etc.
Yes, I hope he's OK, too.
with that kind of weather, it could be a while before he's able to get online. he may have no power or phone line for dsl.
I did a google of his name and ended up w/ a number. I called and it is `unavailable at this time.'
I am not sure if it is the right number. His real name is fairly common and the address does not match the one he gave me.
HASHEMITE PLAN--Cheney's Plan
US plans to merge Iraq, Jordan after war
http://globalresearch.ca/articles/KHA209A.html
by Aslam Khan
Stratfor , 26 September/ septembre 2002
The United States is working on a plan to merge Iraq and Jordan into a unitary kingdom to be ruled by the Hashemite dynasty headed by King Abdullah of Jordan with Amman as the capital of the proposed new country, reveals a startling report made available here on Friday.
The idea to unite Jordan and Iraq in a pro-US Hashemite kingdom after an American war is aimed at "ensuring a stable post-war Iraq", according to Stratfor, a strategic forecasting think tank based in the US.
It says that as a US war against Iraq nears both Washington and Middle Eastern players are working to make sure the expected American victory will result in strategic long-term gains. "The idea of a central Iraq populated by Sunni Arabs joining with Jordan to form one Hashemite kingdom is being considered as one way to secure such gains," Stratfor says.
The plan, authored by US Vice President Dick Cheney, was first discussed at an unusual meeting between Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan and pro-US Iraqi Sunni opposition members in London in July.
The plan's goal in Iraq is to create a united Hashemite kingdom embracing Jordan and Iraq's Sunni areas. In a nutshell, the plan involves uniting Jordan and Sunni-populated areas of Iraq under the rule of the current Jordanian regime.
The report says this will be done if Iraqi Sunni leaders "appeal to King Abdullah with such a request, which has a weak but still legally valid justification, as Abdullah is the second cousin of the last Iraqi king, Faisal II, who was overthrown in 1958". The report says the plan will bring strategic benefits to the US, Israel and Jordan.
Benefits for US: The fact that the Western-based Iraqi opposition completely depends on Washington will help the "Hashemite Plan". The US favours the plan because the current goal of replacing Saddam Hussein with a pro-US Iraqi government still would not guarantee long-term US control over the territory and its oil.
"First, it may become too hard for a new government in Baghdad to effectively control the whole country, even with US troop support. An example is Afghanistan, in which the government of President Hamid Karzai still controls only the capital," the report says.
"Second, the new government's attempts to establish control over all of Iraq may well lead to a civil war between Sunni, Shia and Kurdish ethnic groups, with US troops caught in the middle. The fiercest fighting could be expected for control over the oil facilities," it adds. Uniting Jordan and Iraq under a Hashemite government will give US several strategic advantages.
"First, the creation of a new pro-US kingdom under the half-American Abdullah will shift the balance of forces in the region heavily in the US favour," the report says. After eliminating Iraq as a sovereign state, there would be no fear that one day an anti-American government would come to power in Baghdad, as the capital would be in Amman.
"Current and potential US geopolitical foes Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria would be left isolated from each other, with big chunks of land between them under control of the pro-US forces," according to Stratfor.
"Equally important, Washington would be able to justify its long-term and heavy military presence in the region as necessary for the defence of a young new state asking for US protection and to secure the stability of oil markets and supplies. That in turn would help the US gain direct control of Iraqi oil and replace Saudi oil in case of conflict with Riyadh," it adds.

U.S. Considers Dividing Iraq Into Three Separate States After Saddam Is Gone

U.S. Considers Dividing Iraq Into Three Separate States After Saddam Is Gone
October 1, 2002
1. Stratfor's Latest Intelligence On Iraq.
2. Iraq Is Too Big For One New Government.
3. US Would Divide Into Three Separate States.
4. Central Iraq (Sunnis) Would Join With Jordan
5. The Shia Region Would Join With Kuwait.
6. The Kurds Get Their Own State In The North.
7. Iraq Ceases To Exist; Baghdad No Longer Capital.
8. Investment Market Implications.
A US war against Iraq appears to be only a matter of when, not if, despite the latest rumblings from a few high-level Democrats who oppose the idea. The latest Zogby poll shows that 70% of Americans believe that Saddam Hussein is a legitimate threat to the safety and security of the United States, compared to 25% who believe Hussein is just another ruler whose policies are anti-American. Most Americans also have little doubt that we will win a war with Iraq handily, complete with the removal of Saddam Hussein.
But the question I have been most interested in is whether there is any group in Iraq that can successfully manage and govern that country after Saddam and his thugs are removed from power. It would be a terrible mistake for the US to clean out Saddam & Company, only to see the country fall back into the hands of tyrants, especially religious extremists who are sympathetic to al Qaeda, in another year or two.
Most observers agree that there is no one group in Iraq who could successfully govern and manage it in the post-Saddam era, given its diverse population and different religions. Given that, what are the US and our allies to do?
Well, my good friends at STRATFOR.COM released a fascinating report last Friday. Stratfor.com is one of the most respected geopolitical intelligence services in the world. Stratfor's high-level sources tell them that one of the leading long-term strategies being considered by US war planners is one that will DIVIDE Iraq into three separate regions. Under this plan Iraq would CEASE TO EXIST.
Stratfor believes the plan would divide Iraq as follows:

Possible gains for U.S.
Sprinzak stated that the authors of a "Hashemite plan" are U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, both considered the most hawkish of Bush administration officials. Russian television program "Drugoye Vremya" also reports that it was U.S. officials who twice invited Hassan to meet the Iraqi opposition last summer.
(September 26, 2002 so last summer would be July, 2002 or 2001?)
