Couldn't agree more. My only interest now is based on the unimaginable nightmare of having a chronic liar, senile, war monger for at least four more years.
the unimaginable nightmare of having a chronic liar, senile,...

Who Will Replace Dick
Who Will Replace Dick Cheney? (Brent Budowsky)
@ 9:40 am
Let’s have a serious talk about America and set aside the punditry, the pageantry and the pap of an election year that has become a festival of slander and a feast of mediocrity led by a media that is incapable of serious discussion of serious issues at a serious moment for the nation.
Barack Obama's choice for vice president will speak volumes about the kind of president he would be and the degree of substance and depth that he embodies. These are serious times that demand serious people. To the degree that Obama chooses a serious person by presidential standards, such as Sam Nunn or Joe Biden, versus the degree to which he chooses a good person far lower in the presidential league, such as Tim Kaine or Evan Bayh, it will speak volumes about Barack Obama as would-be president. > Read More

Obama Sharpens
Obama Sharpens Attacks
Illinois Senator Paints Image of McCain and Bush as One
By JAKE TAPPER
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Aug. 18, 2008
Back from his Hawaiian vacation, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has sharpened his attacks on his opponent, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., with a new sense of urgency and a new message.
His once obligatory mention that McCain "is a genuine American hero" was gone today, as he addressed 1,800 supporters at Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque.
McCain "said my plan would cause a major economic disaster," Obama said. "Mr. McCain, the economic disaster is happening right now, maybe you haven't noticed."
Obama's sharp rhetoric concerning his Republican opponent centers on domestic issues, and highlights the Democrat's current campaign message: A McCain presidency would just continue the policies of President Bush.
"Basically, what John McCain's done is he's hired the same old folks who brought you George W. Bush," Obama said during a town hall meeting in Reno, Nev., Sunday afternoon.
As Obama began a swing through states Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., lost during his 2004 presidential run, including Nevada and New Mexico -- he will also visit Florida, North Carolina and Virginia -- he argued that McCain not only supports Bush's policies, but that he's intent on continuing them.
"They don't have something positive to say about what they're going to do for America. What they try to do is, they say, 'Well, this other guy, he's unpatriotic,' or 'This other guy, he likes French people.' That's what they said about Kerry," Obama said. (more)

The first part of the story shows Bruce Ivins was not the lone Anthrax killer.
The second part of the story elucidates how the Bush Executive Branch has BROKEN the NO Germ Warfare TREATY signed by Richard Nixon in 1972!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS BIG!!!
BEFORE 9/11, Bush had already committed TWO impeachable offenses -- 1/ covering up via secrecy his amped GERM WEAPONRY programs and 2/ domestic spying via NSA and telecom companies.
WOW! Does Kucinich know? This should be added to the list of the Articles of Impeachment as #36!!!!!!!

Obama vs. "Oh, Bomb 'Em" --
Obama vs. "Oh, Bomb 'Em" -- Who's the Christian?
Republicans and self-styled "Christians" are agog over what Andrea Mitchell of NBC characterized as the "crisp, immediate, forceful response" John McCain gave to Rick Warren's question about evil during the forum at the Saddleback Church. They dismiss Barack Obama's "more nuanced approach."
"Sen. McCain was crisp, decisive, knew what he was about, knew his values," Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R, Minn.), who is a favorite of the "Christian Right," proclaimed on Face the Nation on Sunday. "Sen. Obama, I thought, was hesitant, halting, and quite wandering in his answers."
Pastor Rick asked the following question of both candidates: "Does evil exist? And if it does, do we ignore it? Do we negotiate with it? Do we contain it? Do we defeat it?"
Here is a portion of Obama's reasoned, considered, "nuanced" answer:
"Evil does exist. I mean, I think we see evil all the time. We see evil in Darfur. We see evil, sadly, on the streets of our cities. . . . It has to be confronted squarely . . . . I think [it] is very important for to us have some humility in how we approach the issue of confronting evil, because a lot of evil's been perpetrated based on the claim that we were trying to confront evil. . . . in the name of good. . . . [J]ust because we think that our intentions are good, doesn't always mean that we're going to be doing good."
Here, in stark contrast, is McCain's answer:
"Defeat it."
One can't get much more "crisp" and "decisive" than that! And it sure sounds like the proper Christian answer to what to do about evil, doesn't it?
Sen. McCain's values, which he knows so well, are based on that revered commandment from Jesus, "Shoot first and ask questions later."
Let's see, that's from . . . uh . . . the fifth chapter of Matthew, isn't it?
Oops. That's where Jesus offers an answer to Pastor Warren's question on what to do about evil that is nearly opposite to Sen. McCain's:
"But I say to you, 'Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.'" (Matt. 5:39)
Several biblical Proverbs also reject Mr. McCain's "crisp, immediate, forceful response." A few examples:
"He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty." (Prov. 16:32)
"A man of quick temper acts foolishly, but a man of discretion is patient." (Prov. 14:17)
"He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly." (Prov. 14:29)
"A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention." (Prov. 15:18)
And, from the Christian New Testament's Letter of James: "Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God" (James 1:19-20)

Obama’s Ads in Key States Go on Attack
WASHINGTON — Senator Barack Obama has started a sustained and hard-hitting advertising campaign against Senator John McCain in states that will be vital this fall, painting Mr. McCain in a series of commercials as disconnected from the economic struggles of the middle class.
Mr. Obama has begun the drive with little fanfare, often eschewing the modern campaign technique of unveiling new spots for the news media before they run in an effort to win added (free) attention. Mr. Obama, whose candidacy has been built in part on a promise to transcend traditional politics, is running the negative commercials on local stations even as he runs generally positive spots nationally, during prime-time coverage of the Olympics.
The negative spots reflect the sharper tone Mr. Obama has struck in recent days on the stump as he heads into his party’s nominating convention in Denver next week, and seem to address the anxiety among some Democrats that Mr. Obama has not answered a volley of attacks by Mr. McCain with enough force.
“If you can go quietly negative, that’s what he’s done; I think the perception is that he’s still running the positive campaign,” said Evan Tracey, president of the Campaign Media Analysis Group of TNS Media Intelligence, which monitors political advertising. “It’s a pretty smart, high-low, good cop/bad cop strategy.”
In Philadelphia; East Lansing, Mich.; Green Bay, Wis.; and at least five other major cities, Mr. Obama is heavily showing an advertisement contrasting a statement by Mr. McCain that “we have had a pretty good, prosperous time with low unemployment,” with appearances by people making statements like, “The prices of gas are up; the prices of milk are up.”..........

Condoleeza Rice and the insult to international diplomacy
Hmmmmmm .....tell me what you really think and don't hold back ...
PRAVDA.Ru - Timothy BANCROFT-HINCHEY
In the equation which makes up the odious, criminal and murderous Bush regime and its murderous, criminal and odious foreign policy, the constant factor is constituted by a teacher, promoted to positions way above her personal and intellectual station by a gullible fool of a President. This teacher, whose sheer incompetence as National Security Advisor and as Secretary of State is today so blatantly apparent, goes by the name of Condoleeza Rice.
The fact that Rice was National Security Advisor at the time of 9/11 speaks for itself, period.
As Secretary of State, she is supposed to be responsible for her country’s diplomacy, she is supposed to be Washington’s leading diplomat. But can anyone think of a figure less qualified for the post? Starting with the face (set in a constant snarl, with a scar for a mouth, lips pursed back in a sneer, piggy eyes looking as though something evil is lunging behind them), continuing with the body language (aggressive stance, butch, defensive posture as though she is hiding something or afraid) and ending with the discourse (about as diplomatic as a raspberry and a fit of giggling at a funeral ceremony), she cuts a sorry figure.
The constant arrogance and hypocrisy of this failed female makes it that much more apparent that here is a person way out of her depth. Instead of regarding sensitive issues from a balanced viewpoint as she is supposed to do, this incompetent loud-mouthed, bad-mannered, bullshit-mongering bimbo takes one side, ignores the other and then speaks down from a holier-than-thou platform as if she were on a lecture dias.
This is not a classroom, Condoleeza Rice, and you are not a diplomat. You are a liar, a cheap, shallow, failed, wannabe actress on the diplomatic stage. This is the real world and out here, you have to be prepared to face up to your responsibilities.
For a start, you have failed to mention one single time the Georgian war crimes against 2.000 Russian civilians on the night of 7/8 August. Why have you systematically refused to admit they happened? Why have you not mentioned the devastation of Tskhinvali by your allies’ forces? Why do you continue to support the Saakashvili regime?
You therefore support war crimes? You therefore support the Georgian devastation of civilian structures? You side with Saakashvili against the 2.000 civilians murdered? Do you wish they had killed more Ossetians that night? Do you think it is right to target civilian structures with military hardware? Why have you failed to refer to a single item of these odious crimes?
Is it because you are a balanced diplomat ready to look at both sides and find a solution? Or is it because you are an incompetent frumpish hysterical female, wholly out of her depth, who instead of acting in a civilised manner as one would expect from someone in your position, instead gives lectures which are downright rude, pig-headedly arrogant and most unladylike?
So instead of mouthing off about NATO and Russia, how about you shut the hell up, put a sock in it and go back to inflict yourself on your students? Rumour has it you were pretty much hated in academic circles as well, perhaps not as much as in the area of diplomacy, which your very presence insults.
You, personally, are the reason why Washington has been divorced from the international community; you, personally are the reason why so many millions of people hate the idea of the United States and all it stands for; you, personally, are responsible for driving a wedge of sullen hatred into the hearts and mind of the international community. You have done more damage to your country, to its international standing, to the history and the noble precepts of your founding fathers than any other American in history.
And now you say you are not going to let Russia “win” in Georgia? Russia already has won! Nobody believes the lies you have spun in the western press circles. The readership of PRAVDA.Ru has never been higher, in all its language versions, since we have hundreds of thousands of readers flocking to us daily, with comments against the nonsense and lies paraded as “news” by the likes of yourself.
In a nutshell, Georgia invaded South Ossetia and slaughtered 2.000 civilians in one night. You cannot admit that because it would be admitting that Georgia’s President Saakashvili is incompetent. So the two of you stick together, hoping it will blow over if you keep repeating the same thing.
You have lost, Condoleeza Rice. Your ally Saakashvili is responsible for thousands of murders and war crimes, your military advisors, training and equipment have been proven to be wholly inferior to the Russian Armed Forces and this, the nearest we ever got to direct conflict, has proven that your forces were utterly thrashed.
So if you want to bring it on, you will find Russia saddened but by no means afraid and perfectly ready. As an alternative, get back behind a desk where you belong, you rude, insolent, bad-mannered, man-hating apology for a lady before you get your allies into trouble.

Government’s ‘watch
Government’s ‘watch list’ includes name of commercial pilot
Posted: 12:07 PM ET
SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) — James Robinson is a retired Air National Guard brigadier general and a commercial pilot for a major airline who flies passenger planes around the country. He has even been certified by the Transportation Safety Administration to carry a weapon into the cockpit as part of the government’s defense program should a terrorist try to commandeer a plane.
But there’s one problem: James Robinson, the pilot, has difficulty even getting to his plane because his name is on the government’s terrorist “watch list.”
That means he can’t use an airport kiosk to check in; he can’t do it online; and he can’t do it curbside. Instead, like thousands of Americans whose names match a name or alias used by a suspected terrorist on the list, he must go to the ticket counter and have an agent verify that he is James Robinson, the pilot, and not James Robinson, the terrorist.

Compare two Anthrax stories -- see the difference!
A reading of two articles, one published a day before the other, illustrates the difference between an investigative report and a Major Corporate Media palliative which benefits only the Military Industrial Complex and those who support it.
First is the August 19 article--

by Sheila Casey which covers numerous issues raised by the fact that the anthrax used in the Anthrax Mailings had been processed in a manner so technologically advanced that it could only have been done in a facility equipped for WEAPONIZATION OF BIOLOGICALS. Ms. Casey goes to the heart of the matter in her coverage -- how did this happen and why has the weaponization of the anthrax not been the main factor in the Bush Administration's investigation?

by three authors, led by Judith Miller, well known shill in Bush's deceitful selling of the Iraq invasion based on lies and myths of WMDs. This current article serves to be a vehicle whereby arguments can be made in favor of renewed germ weaponry development that is unhindered by anything -- not public opinion, not public safety, not the public's right to know, not even the international law of treaty agreements banning germ weaponry proliferation.
Adjunct to the Anthrax Mailing story -- wherein "suicided" immunologist Bruce Ivins was put on trial in the press and found guilty via innuendo and flimsy circumstantial details -- is the fact that THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION HAD A MOTIVE for dragging its feet and not solving the Anthrax Mailings Case for nearly seven years: Looking into the "WEAPONIZED" anthrax spores sent to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy and others would have necessitated a thorough exposition of the further development of GERM WARFARE WEAPONS under Bush leadership -- IN VIOLATION of a treaty against germ weaponry signed in 1972 by Richard Nixon.
Prior to 9/11, the Bush Administration was already failing to comply with the treaty and undercutting efforts to pass a new, tougher treaty with compliance protocol.
Fannie, Freddie Bailouts May Hinge on Debt Rollover
Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's success in repaying $223 billion of bonds due by the end of the quarter may determine whether they can avoid a federal bailout.
Fannie, based in Washington, has about $120 billion of debt maturing through Sept. 30, while McLean, Virginia-based Freddie has $103 billion, according to figures provided by the government-chartered companies and data compiled by Bloomberg.
Rising borrowing costs and evidence that demand for their debt was waning last month led Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to seek the authority to pump unlimited amounts of capital in Fannie and Freddie in an emergency. Their interest costs are again increasing amid concern that credit losses are depleting the capital of the beleaguered mortgage-finance companies.
Rolling over the debt ``is the single most important factor to their ability to remain liquid,'' said Moshe Orenbuch, an analyst at Credit Suisse in New York. ``So far, they've been able to do that.''
Investors in Asia, the biggest foreign owner of Fannie's $3 trillion of bonds, are reducing their share of purchases, potentially increasing the need for Paulson to make good on his pledge to backstop the companies.
``This whole backstop mechanism was set up so the actual need for it could be avoided,'' said Mahesh Swaminathan, a mortgage strategist for Credit Suisse in New York. ``The market is testing the Treasury's resolve.''

i can't believe i actually agree with mccain on something
speaking from hms chevron genesis, an oil rig out in the middle of the gulf of mexico, mccain said, that if he were president he would call congress back into session and tell them to get to work.
i agree totally, it takes a lot of work to impeach and get the job done by the end of the year.
these long videos that sam has posted as thread content
does anybody have the cliff notes?
American warmongers excel at talking a good game
American warmongers excel at talking a good game
August 20, 2008

BY ANDREW GREELEY
'Speak Softly," said President Roosevelt (T), "and carry a big stick." Sounds like good strategy for a country ready to take on the whole world. Yet for much of its history this country has been just the opposite. Many Americans believe the military power of the country is absolute and the leaders of the country can win any war they choose to enter if they are only resolute enough to push through to victory. In fact, often the bluster is hollow. Wars are lost, we are told, because Democrats surrender. The insistence that "we've never lost a war" persists as a slogan, though often it is the Republicans like Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon who surrender.
The ideal wars for these "no substitute for victory" people are pushover victories like the Mexican and Spanish American wars, the First Gulf War and the so-called American Indian wars. The most terrible of our wars was the Civil War, which both sides thought could be ended in three months.
The war of 1812 ended with Washington in ruins, the White House torched and the only victory in New Orleans after the peace treaty was signed.
However, such celebrators of American victories as Senators Lieberman and McCain insist that anything less than victory betrays the country and those who have already died. Humiliating compromises like Korea and Vietnam -- and like any compromise in Iraq has to be -- are the works of defeatists, traitors and unpatriotic Democrats.
If we chant "USA!" Often enough, sing God "Bless American!" fervently enough, wear flag pins, fly the flag in front of our house and croak the national anthem loudly enough, we will win victory and honor our dead heroes.
Who are those who reject compromise of a useless and criminally deadly war like Iraq? They are the blusterers, members of "veteran's organizations," mountain folk, crackers, West Texans, blue collar workers, evangelical clergy, neo-cons, Republicans, white ethnics, Sox fans, folks who want Cardinal George to "get rid" of Father Pfleger, those who tell you with a straight face that the country isn't ready yet for a black president and that the United States must rid itself of "illegal aliens." (I hasten to add that all these groups number some men and women who are innocent of bellicose patriotism.)
The second gulf war looked like it would be a "cake walk" just like the first. "Shock and awe" and "Special Forces" would knock over Saddam Hussein's regime. Just like firing on Fort Sumter. The war has been prolonged by defeatest left-wing Democrats, right?
So now that the Russians have attacked our hapless Georgian allies, we must teach the Russians a lesson. How can we do that since we don't have any available troops to send to Tibilisi and the public is not ready to support the dispatch of the Marines to the Caucasus mountains? We go after the Russians with the big vocal stick. Columnists and editorial writers denounce them. Condoleezza tells the Russians what they "need" to do. Senator McCain reads the riot act to them. Mr. Putin is patently shaking in his boots.
As for the Georgians, well too bad for them. If they had read any recent American history, they would know the louder the noise in this country, the smaller our actual help. We are four flushers, as the European "Captive Nations" could have told them. When a country finally managed to get rid of Russian troops, they didn't get much help from us. Of course we took credit for tearing down the walls. Didn't President Reagan, in one of the great grandstander plays in human history, demand that the Russians tear down the Brandenburger Tor?
Now altogether -- "Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"

WASHINGTON - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday. - Reuters

how much of mccain's "gaining" is hype?
John McCain has opened a 5-point lead
is this even believable? polling organizations and msm needs controversy and fear to fuel their market.
i think its even possible that with all the wiretapping and spying that the republicans could hack the databases and bias who's being surveyed to produce the result they want.

Ralph Nader to Speak Before Half-Dozens Near GOP Convention
BY: Dennis DiClaudio
Even as we speak, Ralph Nader is counting out the change he'll be needing to purchase a round-trip ticket to Minneapolis for the GOP convention he won't be attending... Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader plans a rally in Minneapolis on the final day of the Republican National Convention.
Nader's campaign says the rally will be a call to action for opening the presidential debates to candidates like him.
I think this should be a really effective strategy for Nader. Especially when the media get a load of the heavy hitters he's got lined up to face down the RNC guests.
Like Tito, the guy who runs the sandwich truck over on Marquette Ave. He's got some harsh words to say about how "totally not fair" the media are treating candidates like him and his homeboy Nader.
Still no word on whether or not Homeless Jimmy who lives out behind the Nicollet Mall Target will be delivering his stirring "I Have a Hammer in My Foot" speech.
It's far from over - we just got started
We see these poll swings in every presidential election. McCain may not be the pushover everyone had predicted but it's way too early to start to worry. Those predictions of an easy Democratic victory in 08 were way overblown. The convention bounce will snap Obama back into the lead. It's going to take time. The American people are slow to change. I never did believe all the hype about a backlash by the Republicans against their party. Obama needs to step up his game. I hope his VP pick goes over well, that's the next step.
McBush runs his mouth
"IN THE 21st CENTURY NATIONS DON'T INVADE OTHER NATIONS"
Not to be outdone by the president when it comes to Orwellian idiocy, the presumptive proto-fascistic Republican presidential candidate John McCain actually said the following to reporters on August 14th:
"In the 21st century, nations don't invade other nations."
Let me repeat McCain's line: "In the 21st century, nations don't invade other nations"
Right, just like "2 + 2 = 5," "Love is Hate," and "War is Peace" because Big Brother (the public face of George Orwell's totalitarian state Oceana in his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four) says so.
McCain's lovely nine words were part of his effort to "sound tough on Russia." In calling for that country to withdraw from Georgia, McCain said there was no justification for the "extent and degree" of Russia's intervention in Georgia and proclaimed that we must show "respect for the sovereignty and independence of nations" in the 21st century.
Thankfully, McCain's wacky comments came in for criticism by CNN commentator Jack McCafferty, who said the following on air:
"Say what? The United States invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq more than 5 years ago. And you, Senator McCain, were all for the idea. You voted for the war, remember? At the time, McCain insisted that the U.S. needed to act before Saddam Hussein could develop more advanced weapons. And since then, McCain has remained steadfast in his support of arguably the biggest foreign policy blunder in the history of this country. At one point, McCain said U-S troops could remain in Iraq, a sovereign nation, for 100 years".

thanks for finding and posting those links to the Seattle panel, I started watching this am before leaving for work, but will have to push it off to this evening as it's gonna be a busy day for me
Like smoking crack!
That's for sure. After posting the Town Hall link last night I watched the thing until I started to drift off during the first part of the second half. I still have 40 minutes to go and then must back to the audio to catch the beginning (not available in video for now).
It is a lot of fun but I am getting eyestrain from the tiny screen. I wish we could get a body language expert to run a "special commentary" on Rachel.
