douchey fan
or just douche bag fan, which would explain Steve and John McCain
Will you vote for Kissinger or Brzezinski in 2008?
Henry Kissinger backs McCain. Zbigs (author of Between Two Ages and The Grand Chessboard) backs Obama. Either way - you lose!
As it became more evident that the neocons would not be able to false-flag their way into Iran (according to NY Times S. Hersh, Cheney wanted to dress up marines as Iranians and have them MURDER other marines to gain your unwavering support). The CFR-Bilderberg globalists decided to turn their attention to BIGGER FISH. Namely, Russia. Zbigs has had a long time hatred for Mother Russia, having been the guy who helped create Al-Qaeda in 1979 (then, 'Freedom Fighters') to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.
So basically here we see these two old friends and Rothschild agents having a little mock debate, (video below) moderated by zionist Wolf Blitzer. But the 'synthesis' or outcome of the debate will be that WWIII with Russia will bring the invasion of Iran anyway. In other words, a PNAC sponsored invasion of Iran now would be counterproductive.
It's time for the head globalists to take over, and that's what we'll get with Zbig's puppet Obama in November. Biden, a true globalist warhawk, and anti-american will somehow further reassure the sheeple, while McCain's selection of a very weak VP candidate will be easily exploited. While it seems O-bomb-a is being set up to win, it also still seems quite possible that the neocons could drop a few nukes on Iran to get things started before they leave office. And We the Sheeple will accept all this, a crashed economy and possibly martial law - as long as we get football and American Idol on our flat screen tv's. BTW - this is not really opinion, as this was all written up in the Project for a New American Century papers and The Grand Chessboard.

Voices from the Streets of St Paul
Lindsay just reported in that there seem to be arrests at Sibley St of folks who attempted to block an RNC delegate bus - she's keeping us updated. ColdSnapLegal reports the Ramsey City Jail is on lockdown and no lawyers can get in to see the arrestees - same with the St Joseph hospital where some have been taken.
As you can see, reports are coming in fast from St Paul - with multiple demonstrations happening at once - some dedicated to legal protests and others to disrupting the RNC. The video above is of the Iraq Veterans Against the War march and here's a view of the legal march going on now:
Thanks to Teddy and his diary over at Kos, we also have a description of some not so legal events from a local resident who reports:
I was there, and I got gassed (6+ / 0-)
I live less than 1/2 mile away from the convention. I was on my way home when I saw the protesters appear. I followed them and was tear gassed.

Breaking: Pepper Spray and

digg it
Latest reports from the streets: Lindsay called in, is fine ... says she has only seen peaceful folks but police are blocking access to many locations and she's seeing a lot of police in riot gear with batons and tear gas launchers at her location. She's hearing that the demonstrations are diverging across the city.
The latest Twitter reports:
AP photographer pepper sprayed.
From the ColdSnapLegal twitter feed: National Lawyer's Guild lawyer being held by police and arrests going on at 6th and Wall.
Earlier: Legal observers from the Cold Spring Legal collective have been arrested – these are the folks trained to watch for police problems.
There are numerous reports of rubber bullets being used against demonstrators and 1 arrestee is reported injured and being denied medical care.
Northstar medic clinic reports "steady stream of folks with pepper spray injuries"
Remember that things happen fast during street demos - news is hard to verify - and observers are kept away from a lot - we can only go on what Lindsay has seen herself and then the reports from observers on the scene.
Video from a Funk the War demonstration in DC - Funk the War is one of the groups reportedly being targeted by police.

John, Don’t Go By PAUL
John, Don’t Go
By PAUL KRUGMAN
It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good. Three years after Hurricane Katrina, another storm is heading for the Gulf Coast — and this has given Republicans a reason to cancel President Bush’s scheduled appearance at their national convention. The party can thus avoid reminding voters that the last man they placed in the White House did such a heckuva job that he scored the highest disapproval ratings ever recorded.
Instead, Mr. Bush is playing Commander in Chief. On Sunday morning the White House Web site featured photos of the president talking to Gulf state governors about Hurricane Gustav while ostentatiously clutching a red folder labeled “Classified.” On Monday, instead of speaking at the convention, reports suggest that Mr. Bush will address the nation about the storm.
And a report on Politico.com suggested that John McCain might give a speech “from the devastation zone if the storm hits the U.S. coast with the ferocity feared by forecasters.”
What’s wrong with this picture?
Let’s start with that red folder. Assuming that the folder contained something other than scrap paper, is the planned response to a hurricane a state secret? Are we worried that tropical storm systems will discover our weak points? Are we fighting a Global War on Weather?
Actually, that’s not quite as funny as it sounds. Some observers have pointed out that daily briefings on preparations for Gustav, which should be coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency — which is, you know, supposed to manage emergencies — have been coming, instead, from the U.S. military’s Northern Command.
It’s not hard to see why. Top positions at FEMA are no longer held by obviously unqualified political hacks and cronies. But a recent report by the inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security said that the agency has made only “limited progress” in the area of “mission assignments” — that is, in its ability to coordinate the response to a crisis. So FEMA still isn’t up to carrying out its principal task.

In Wasilla, Pregnancy Was No Secret
"The fact is, regardless of what you will hear over the next few days, Bristol's pregnancy is not a legitimate political issue. Sarah Palin is a longterm member of a group called Feminists for Life, which is not opposed to birth control. So you probably can't tag her for consigning young people to unwanted pregnancies."

Happy Labor Day: Riot Police Defend the Mall of America from Workers
Source: Infoshop News
By Mike GW & James Kautz
Starbucks workers and their supporters, 50 to 70 of them, converge for a rally today at the rail station at Lake and Hiawatha in downtown Minneapolis. The crowd comes to stand in solidarity with Starbucks workers in their fight to organize a union, the Starbucks Workers Union (SWU), with the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), and to escort Erik Forman back to work at the Mall of America.
This is Forman’s first day back on the job after being fired for exercising his right to organize at his workplace—which recently became the first union shop in the entire Mall of America. He is one of many workers across the country who have been fired for their organizing in recent years—among them Starbucks workers and other Wobblies, as the IWWs are known.
This action is joined by Wobblies from coast to coast, along with rank-and-file members of the AFSCME Clerical Workers, SEIU Security Officers, Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE), and Truckers and Citizens of America. “Solidarity!” the call goes out. “Forever!” comes the response.
“We have the right to organize because people have stood up”—says Erin of Twin Cities IWW.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Further into the article:
Fast forward to the Mall of America station:
“Get back on the train! Anyone exiting the train will be arrested for trespassing.”
This is what greets all passengers as they enter the Mall of America rail station. It is spoken by armed riot police here to protect the Mall from its workers and their friends. Deployed by the Bloomington Police Department and backed up by other agencies, the riot police run to block the exits of the train.

Dutch withdraw spy from Iran because of 'impending US attack'
Source: Telegraph UK
According to reports in the newspaper De Telegraaf, the country's intelligence service, the AIVD, has stopped an espionage operation aimed at infiltration and sabotage of the weapons industry in Iran.
"The operation, described as extremely successful, was halted recently in connection with plans for an impending US air attack on Iran," said the report.
"Targets would also be bombed which were connected with the Dutch espionage action."
"Well placed" sources told the paper that a top agent had been recalled recently "because the US was thought to be making a decision within weeks to attack Iran with unmanned aircraft".

Joe Biden: Ten Times More Boneable than Sarah Palin
The media is drooling over Sarah the beauty queen, not Palin the politician. They are focusing on her rack record, not her track record. This is sexist, salacious, and distracting. The media is moving the national conversation away from the more the issues that really affect the American people. Namely, Palin lacks the experience, preparation, and insight to lead this country. And, perhaps more importantly, Joe Biden is infinitely more boneable than Sarah Palin. Biden is the real VPILF.

The Palin Meltdown in Slo-Mo
By Greg Sargent - September 1, 2008, 6:20PM
On the same day that the Republicans were forced to dramatically cut back their convention activities, the Palin Meltdown unfolded with extraordinary speed. It's worth pondering the totality of what happened today, in a mere half day...
* The news that Palin once backed the Bridge to Nowhere went national.
* It emerged that Palin has links to the bizarro Alaska Independence Party, which harbors the goal of seceding from the union that McCain and Palin seek to lead.
* The news broke that as governor, Palin relied on an earmark system she now opposes. Taken along with the Bridge to Nowhere stuff, this threatens to undercut her reformist image, something that was key to her selection as McCain's Veep candidate.
* The news broke that Palin's 17-year-old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock at a time when the conservative base had finally started rallying behind McCain's candidacy.
* Barely moments after McCain advisers put out word that McCain had known of Bristol Palin's pregnancy, the Anchorage Daily News revealed that Palin's own spokesperson hadn't known about it only two days ago.
* A senior McCain adviser at the Republican convention was forced into the rather embarrassing position of arguing that McCain had known about the pregnancy "last week" -- without saying what day last week he knew about it.
* It came out that Republican lawyers are up in Alaska vetting Palin -- now, more than 72 hours after it was announced that she'd been picked.
* Palin lawyered up in relation to the trooper-gate probe in Alaska -- a move that ensures far more serious attention to the story from the major news orgs.
What else will come out today? After all, there are still six hours left until September 2nd...

Sarah Palin naked?
Posted by My Missionary the 01.09.08 with 13:43 | tags: buzz sexy, people, policy, photograph, naked
And here: one wants to make buzz, to have his share of the cake and inevitably, the things take a turning apart from our control. Undoubtedly jealous of this end of the month of August completely Obamaniaque, John McCain leaves its go-all: a vice-president young, beautiful, popular in Alaska and able, the time of a democratic convention, to make turn the eyes towards her. Even, to make of the pro-Clinton of future the pro-McCain.
Obviously, on Internet, the first reflex was to seek in its past. A mother opened out, proud to carry a weapon and savagely anti-abortion, that hiding place something. One thus went to excavate to find an old photograph of it, dating from the time when it ran the beauty contests of the American far North. Becoming thus Dauphine Miss Alaska 1984.
And then, and then, off race: the photograph with hair. It circulates by email at the same time as Sarah Palin appears out of miniskirt. It quickly makes the turn of the American blogs, before taking a place amply deserved on Craigslist. Dismounting all the machination: The photograph out of miniskirt is a so obvious photoshoppage that even the source is found. And the black and white, which could be any small brown, seem to be an old photograph which circulates supposed to represent Julia Louis Dreyfus, actress of sitcoms whose Seinfeld celebrates it.
Hardly named, Sarah Palin unchains already the phantasms which, thanks to the magic of Internet, become sublimated reality. Ca feels the future Photoshop contests. It will have nevertheless to be said to them, with the Americans, that is not used for nothing to try to copy us. In France, one left with a length in advance.

WATCH: If Democrats were
WATCH: If Democrats were Republicans- attack ad
One thing became evident after the 2004 swiftboating of John Kerry- Republicans can smear anyone. Frustrated Democrats often wonder why their party doesn't hit back with the same fervor. Well, wonder no longer. There's a new 527 in town, If Democrats Were Republicans, and they're rolling out a series of McCain attack ads.

This is actually a bigger turnout than they were expecting.
Is Hurricane Gustav an exercise of God's wrath in response to the Republican party's lowball politics and their recent selection of an inexperienced beauty queen to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
Sure, why not!
Come on, how can this not be the work of divine partisanship? It's got all the trimmings. A hurricane touching down on the very first day of the GOP convention? Touching down during the anniversary of the hurricane that effectively signed the death certificate of the present GOP presidency? And it touches down in the EXACT CITY that has become the symbol of Republican insensitivity and the phrase "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Nobody but God could pull off this kind of stagecraft. Okay, God and Karl Rove, but we're pretty sure he's not involved in this one.
Sorry, but if the religious right gets to blame gays and the ACLU for 9-11, we get to blame the GOP for Gustav. You have to deliver a pretty long sermon to make the case for God bringing down the twin towers to punish us for Gay civil unions, but attributing Gustav to God's dissatisfaction with the GOP isn't even a reach. It's such a direct connection it's a wonder that CNN doesn't run the chyron, "Anti-GOP Storm Touches Down Causing Tragic Irony."
Not many people were very happy with the recent Dem efforts to woo the faith-based, but it appears to be paying off like gangbusters. We just wish the Republican party would stop upsetting God so much that he feels the need to continually destroy New Orleans. Doesn't the GOP realize those Cajuns have had it hard enough already? It's time to step up the game, GOP, or you'll only make God destroy this country further. We guar-own-tee!

Face It: They Didn't Vet
Face It: They Didn't Vet Her
Earlier I noted Andrea Mitchell's reference to reports that the McCain camp had just sent a team of GOP lawyers up to Alaska to do what I guess you'd call a post-vetting of Sarah Palin. Now George Stephanopoulos appears to have more. George says the McCainers are sending a "rapid response team of about ten operatives that includes lawyers" to do the aforementioned deeper vet. A lot of attention is being given to Gov. Palin's daughter's situation. The much bigger deal is the expanding trooper-gate investigation, the fact that Palin lied in her Friday speech about her purported opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere, her apparent former membership in the secessionist Alaska Independence Party, and more. Individually, you can come to your own judgment about how consequential these stories are. What they show pretty clearly now -- in addition to the news that the McCain campaign is only now sending in a vetting team -- is that John McCain didn't do any serious vetting of Palin before he invited her to join his ticket and, he hopes, become Vice President of the United States.
Fundamentally, of course, this is about John McCain. And the real issue here is what this slapdash decision says about his judgment.

Harold Simmons, the billionaire Dallas investor, has grown accustomed to using his vast wealth to influence the outcome of elections.
For decades, Simmons has poured millions of dollars into the campaign coffers of mostly Republican lawmakers to get legislation introduced that would greatly benefit his financial holdings.
Simmons has had a close relationship with President George W. Bush and the Bush family for more than a decade. He contributed at least $90,000 to Bush’s Texas gubernatorial campaign, was one of the largest donors to Bush’s presidential campaign in 2000, and donated $100,000 to Bush’s 2004 inauguration.

i must say that even with all my recent worries, this palin woman managed to get on my nerves; and the republican family values crowd hypocrisy though it's nothing new for sure it still irritates the crap out of me each time i see it - and certainly obama is right that these family gossips and maligning should be off limits, but why doesn't he add that they should be also banished from the political discourse altogether, isn't it always the republicans that make these sort of issues their centerpieces, family privacy shouldn't be just for republicans when they stray, what about what happened to john edwards, why was elizabeth e. not allowed some privacy and discretion, and the whole phony issue of choice like it has been pointed out, choice for them while they deny it to others, this stuff is getting so old

Heading due west toward Puerto Rico and the Bahamas...
------
Not to put too fine of a point on it, but the nearest of the Bahamian islands and cays is 400 miles north of Puerto Rico. The farthest is 1000 miles north of Puerto Rico and only 50 miles from Florida.
I suppose if you are far enough away to the east, the Bahamas and Puerto Rico are due west...but so is Hawaii.
I lived near Puerto Rico. When a storm tracked toward the Bahamas, it could have been in Utah for all we cared.
The official coordinates for the Bahamas are 24 15 N and 76 00 W. The official coordinates for Puerto Rico are 18 15 N and 66 30 W.
I think (but am not certain) that the coordinates mark a point near Nassau and a point near San Juan.

Mr. Vonnegut went east to attend Cornell University, but he enlisted in the Army before he could get a degree. The Army initially sent him to the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh and the University of Tennessee to study mechanical engineering.
In 1944 he was shipped to Europe with the 106th Infantry Division and shortly saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge. With his unit nearly destroyed, he wandered behind enemy lines for several days until he was captured and sent to a prisoner of war camp near Dresden, the architectural jewel of Germany.
Assigned by his captors to make vitamin supplements, he was working with other prisoners in an underground meat locker when British and American warplanes started carpet bombing the city, creating a firestorm above him. The work detail saved his life.
Afterward, he and his fellow prisoners were assigned to remove the dead.
“The corpses, most of them in ordinary cellars, were so numerous and represented such a health hazard that they were cremated on huge funeral pyres, or by flamethrowers whose nozzles were thrust into the cellars, without being counted or identified,” he wrote in “Fates Worse Than Death.”

the moose? as i read the blog i must say this moose (meese)
thing goes totally over my head, kinda like the meatball thing, too american for me i guess, just don't get it - no biggie
but today i saw a beautiful deer (not a moose!) as we were driving around, so matter of fact, so close, so unconcerned, in somebody's frontyard, nibbling at their flowerpatch, just about a few yards from our car, looked up at us and then went on trampling on the unlucky garden, like it could have been a regular old pet, a dog or something - this was downtown, not on a country road...i dunno, maybe i was just displaying my out-of-towness by marvelling at this sight, because nobody else in the car was at all surprised....
but we all did stare when we sighted a sugar glider gliding up a passerby's backside on the commons (the ithaca pedestrian mall) so we got into a conversation with the guy...very interesting, but still weird for me, why o why didn't i take a picture (especially when that thing was crawling up the guy's crotch, looking eerily sexual) i guess i was just too engrossed to even think about taking out my camera
i'm just saying, finally enjoyed a little bit of touristing this afternoon, with the cornell students back in town to begin a new school year and everyone looking so happy, i felt attuned and happy too

Conservative Media Elites
Conservative Media Elites Blast Commenters On Liberal Blogs As ‘Vicious,’ ‘Hurting The Country’
Today in Minneapolis, The Huffington Post hosted a panel discussion about the rise of new media with a host of leading traditional media personalities. Conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham applauded the rise of the online journalism. “Look, the old media blew it; the free market does work,” she said. But many of her conservative co-panelists lamented the perils of this free market.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said the flip side of the emergence of the blogopshere is that “it’s so ugly now in some parts of the internet” that good people are being dissuaded from running for office. Scarborough explained that he thought about running for Senate in 2005, but when word leaked out online and commenters began “trashing” him, he said, “screw this, I’m going to get paid for talking on TV.”
His fellow conservative media elites chimed in with similar criticisms:
Conservative columnist Peggy Noonan: The commenters “are much like what you would have gotten in 1880 if you walked into a bedlam with a megaphone and said, ‘I’d like to say a few words.’ It’s wild, it’s crazy, and it’s awful, and it’s often quite vicious.”
Conservative pundit Tucker Carlson: People are “really underestimating the vitriolic dumbness” that’s out there. “I don’t think there’s any way to understate it. … It’s mostly on the left,” he said, and it’s “totally intolerant.” It’s “the least liberal thing I have ever seen — the default position is ‘I don’t agree with you; you are either stupid or corrupt,’” he said. “I think it’s actually hurting the country.”
Conservative pollster Frank Luntz: “You’re right,” he said to Tucker. “Mean would not describe it. It is as humanly vicious as it possibly can be,” he said, adding that it is “deliberately insulting.”
Even liberal columnist Margaret Carlson echoed the views of her conservative peers. “The left is as vicious, if not more so [than the right used to be] and cruel,” she said. “There’s an element of ‘they’re mad and they’re not gonna take it anymore.’”
Scarborough then proposed a solution. “Why don’t internet sites that want to be respected make people [commenters] put their names and their phone numbers”:
If you are going to accuse me of being responsible for starting the Holocaust in 1939 or 1940, then you can put your name, and you can put your telephone number on there so I can pick up the phone and say, “Brother, my lawyer’s going to be calling you in about 10 minutes.”
Arianna Huffington agreed with him about the need to keep commenters from “hiding behind the cloak of anonymity.” Watch it: at link

Lawyers: Gonzales mishandled classified data
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales mishandled highly classified notes about a secret counterterror program, but not on purpose, according to a memo by his legal team.
The memo, obtained by The Associated Press, acknowledges that Gonzales improperly stored notes about the program and might have taken them home at one point.
Removing secret documents from specially secured rooms violates government policy.
Gonzales' lawyers wrote in their memo that there is no evidence the security breach resulted in secret information being viewed or otherwise exposed to anyone who was not authorized.
The classified notes focus on a March 2004 meeting with congressional leaders about a national security program that was about to expire. Efforts to renew the program sparked an intense Bush administration debate that played out at the hospital bedside of then-Attorney General John Ashcroft.
The memo was prepared by Gonzales' legal team as a response to a report being finalized by the Justice Department's inspector general. The report, which could be released as early as Tuesday, is expected to criticize Gonzales' handling of sensitive compartmentalized information, or SCI, according to the memo.
Gonzales agrees with inspector general's findings that his handling of notes and other SCI documents "was not consistent with the department's regulations governing the proper storage and handling of information classified as SCI," concluded the legal team's memo. "Judge Gonzales regrets this lapse."

Rove calls Biden a ‘big blowhard doofus.’
Today, the campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) for saying that McCain is “out of sync with the whole rest of the world.” McCain spokesman Ben Porritt said that while McCain “has called upon Americans to serve and assist our fellow citizens in the gulf states,” Biden “clearly has no limits when it comes to political attacks.” Today, however, McCain adviser Karl Rove took the attacks even further at the GOP convention, calling Biden a “big blowhard doofus.”

Freedom is messy...
as are birth pangs.
``Life happens,'' said McCain adviser Steve Schmidt, talking about the pregnancy story.
``An American family,'' added colleague Mark Salter.
Prominent religious conservatives, many of whom have been lukewarm toward McCain's candidacy, predicted that the pregnancy announcement would not diminish conservative Christian enthusiasm for the vice presidential hopeful, a staunch abortion opponent. In fact, there was talk that it might help.
``Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect,'' said Focus on the Family founder James Dobson. ``Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord.''

AP issues talking points
AP issues talking points over Fournier
AP Washington bureau chief Ron Fournier has been targeted by MoveOn, Media Matters and many liberal blogs this campaign cycle for what they consider light treatment of John McCain at the expense of other candidates — especially Barack Obama.
In July, I reported that Fournier had discussions with the McCain campaign in late 2006 — while not at the AP — about taking a senior level communications job with the campaign. Fournier spoke with Mark Salter, Rick Davis, John Weaver and other campaign staffers, but did not take the job. He returned to the AP in March 2007.
So with the blogosphere enraged over Fournier, FishbowlDC writes today that Ellen Hale, the AP’s vice president for corporate communications, has e-mailed talking points to managers on how to deal with questions about the wire's D.C. bureau chief. But the contents of the memo were not yet revealed.
I’ve now obtained the full talking points which are after the jump (and include a mention of "Politico.com, the blog").

The Conservatives represented by such as Hannity, Savage, Michael Reagan, Mark Levin, Beck, etc., etc., are a vicious ugly crowd. Though our motives are about the truth, when Progressives strike back, we are deemed the villains. Don't fall for the okie-doke. The right doesn't do empathy, sympathy, diplomacy, and certainly not truth. Therefore, we should hit back, and hit hard. Don't give the MSM one moment of peace. Just throw this on with everything else about Palin....
Palin - Alaska Native issues
part of the blog post:
Grassroots Science sent me a whole slew of media reports mentioning, or even playing up, his "native Eskimo" heritage.
Let me try and make a comparison about why it is so frustrating to have this mentioned in the media - when I am so proud of Alaska Native people and want to see our causes forwarded:
I am proud to be voting for and supporting the first Black/Mixed race President. But I am not voting for him because he's black. I'm voting for his ideas, his plans, his experience, his obvious desire and will to change America for the better. "Any black man" will not do. He's the man for the job, and it's a bonus that he will also be breaking the racial "glass ceiling." But he's done plenty for black America, from legistlation on racial profiling to his work in Chicago - he was a civil rights lawyer!
But this is the kind of stuff that concerns me about the Todd Palin mentions (from the Baltimore Chronicle):
Married to a native Eskimo, and with four mixed-race children, she can
expect to appeal to many non-white American voters, on whose support the Obama campaign is counting.
I cannot stress enough - Sarah Palin has done nothing for the Alaska Native community - a community that includes her own children.
Any venture into the Alaska Native community has been superficial at best. I can't even take issue with her Alaska Native policies, because she has NOTHING of substance. She has ignored Alaska Native people from before she took office as governor - an act all the more harmful because it is her own children's heritage she is not acknowledging.
The only thing I know she's "done" for Alaska Native people - fire them. Or not hire them in the first place. The more recent one is Walt Monegan. I absolutely don't believe she fired him because he was Native - I believe she fired him because he wouldn't fire her ex-brother in law- despite the investigation that had already been done on him, with findings and reprimand.
The most troubling part of all of that was, here was a man who was finally doing something about the horrible rates of violence and abuse in Rural Alaska - and for Alaska Native people. He was passionate about these issues. So she fires him. To "go in a new direction." The problem was, she hired a guy to replace Monegan who had been reprimanded for sexual harrassment. And she never could explain what that "new direction" was.
I don't know what Sarah Palin's views on Alaska Native issues are, mostly because she hasn't said what they are. She's skated by without addressing those issues so far. But before she fires any more staffers for personal reasons, she needs to remember we're here, and that these firings can affect Native people in a big way.

McCAIN crashed FOUR US AIRPLANES before his fated 5th in Vietnam
((( are we ready for him to crash our country??? Bush=Trainwreck, McCain=Planecrash )))
McCain III lost jet number one in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while practicing landings. He was knocked unconscious by the impact coming to as the plane settled to the bottom.
McCain's second crash occurred while he was deployed in the Mediterranean. "Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula," Timberg wrote, "he took out some power lines [reminiscent of the 1998 incident in which a Marine Corps jet sliced through the cables of a gondola at an Italian ski resort, killing 20] which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral."
McCain's third crash three occurred when he was returning from flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game.
Timberg reported that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" and went through standard relight procedures three times before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain landed on a deserted beach moments before the plane slammed into a clump of trees.
McCain's fourth aircraft loss occurred July 29, 1967, soon after he was assigned to the USS Forrestal as an A-4 Skyhawk pilot. While seated in the cockpit of his aircraft waiting his turn for takeoff, an accidently fired rocket slammed into McCain's plane. He escaped from the burning aircraft, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and threatened to sink the ship.
McCain's fifth loss happened during his 23rd mission over North Vietnam on Oct. 26, 1967, when McCain's A-4 Skyhawk was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. McCain ejected from the plane breaking both arms and a leg in the process and subsequently parachuted into Truc Bach Lake near Hanoi.

Booze Kills, Pot Doesn't
The alcohol poisoning death rate in the United States is shockingly high, consistently between 300 and 400 a year. It's zero for pot.
On Aug. 19, the Associated Press reported on a group of college presidents proposing reconsideration of the legal drinking age. I'll refrain from wading into the emotional debate about what the legal age for alcohol should be, but a graph that accompanied the story in some outlets, including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, raises larger questions about our national policies toward drugs and alcohol.

Alaska Chooses Largest Gold Mine Over Clean Water
The spawning of salmon is something of a primal, epic drama. After spending their life of several years in the sea, the fish make their way up streams to the places where they were born. They don't eat, all their energy focused on their single-minded goal of spawning, after which they will die. Their flesh turns red from the effort, and hormones cause the males to develop a hump and a sinister-looking, toothy hooked beak.
The salmon life cycle is also part of the cycle of life for thousands of Alaska natives and Alaskans in general. Bristol Bay is known as the world's largest wild salmon fishery. With more than 30 million salmon worth hundreds of millions of dollars caught per year, it is a bedrock of commercial fishing and Alaska natives' subsistence fishing as well as a popular sport-fishing destination. Even people who have dispersed to Anchorage or other towns return yearly, like the salmon, to fish in Bristol Bay. The state's fishing industry is highly regulated to ensure the salmon population is not overfished.

US Military Keeping Secrets About Female Soldiers' "Suicides"?
Since I posted on April 28 the article "Is There an Army Cover Up of the Rape and Murder of Women Soldiers," the deaths of two more U.S. Army women in Iraq and Afghanistan have been listed as suicides - the Sept. 28, 2007, death of 30-year-old Spc. Ciara Durkin and the Feb. 22, 2008, death of 25-year-old Spc. Keisha Morgan. Both "suicides" are disputed by the families of the women.
Since April 2008, five more U.S. military women have died in Iraq - three in noncombat-related incidents. Ninety-nine U.S., six British and one Ukrainian military women and 13 U.S. female civilians have been killed in Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as probably hundreds of thousands of Iraqi women and girls. Of the 99 U.S. military women, 64 were in the Army active component, nine in the Army National Guard, seven in the Army Reserve, seven in the Marine Corps, nine in the Navy and three in the Air Force. According to the Department of Defense, 41 of the 99 U.S. military women who have been killed in Iraq died in "noncombat-related incidents." Of the 99 U.S. military women killed in the Iraq theater, 41 were women of color (21 African-Americans, 16 Latinas, three of Asian-Pacific descent and one Native American - data compiled from the Web site www.nooniefortin.com).

Amy Goodman and producers
Amy Goodman and producers arrested at RNC
RAW STORY
Published: Monday September 1, 2008
**UPDATE:
Goodman has been charged with "conspiracy to riot" and released. Her producers, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar, are still in custody.
By SCOTT BAUER Associated Press Writer
Associated Press photographer Matt Rourke and Democracy Now! TV and radio show host Amy Goodman were among those arrested Monday at an anti-war march coinciding with the first day of the Republican National Convention.
Rourke was swept up as police moved in on a group of protesters in downtown St. Paul, the scene of scattered violence and vandalism by protesters, some of whom described themselves as anarchists.
Goodman was arrested as she tried to prevent two colleagues from being arrested, a producer for her show said.
David Ake, an AP assistant chief of bureau in Washington, said he was concerned by the arrest of Rourke, a Philadelphia-based photographer.
"Covering news is a constitutionally protected activity, and covering a riot is part of that coverage," Ake said. "Photographers should not be detained for covering breaking news."
Democracy Now! producers Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar were arrested while they carried out their journalistic duties, Democracy Now! said in a statement. Ramsey County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Holli Drinkwine said Goodman was arrested on a misdemeanor but she didn't know the charge. She did not immediately have any information about the other three.
Police said late Monday they had arrested 163 people at the march, with more expected. Most of the estimated 10,000 people in the march were peaceful, but small groups totaling about 200 broke windows, taunted police, slashed tires and harassed delegates.
Rourke took photos throughout the day showing police shooting tear gas at protesters. Evan Vucci, another AP photographer, was with Rourke but did not see him get arrested.
"The police had pushed the protesters into a parking lot where they had police coming from all sides to encircle one area," Vucci said. "Once they got all the protesters into this one parking lot they kind of rushed and arrested all the protesters in there."
Snip
A video of Goodman's arrest posted on YouTube shows her begging police not to arrest her before being taken away in handcuffs.

ST. PAUL, MN—Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman was unlawfully arrested in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota at approximately 5 p.m. local time. Police violently manhandled Goodman, yanking her arm, as they arrested her. Video of her arrest can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYjyvkR0bGQ
Goodman was arrested while attempting to free two Democracy Now! producers who were being unlawfully detained. They are Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar. Kouddous and Salazar were arrested while they carried out their journalistic duties in covering street demonstrations at the Republican National Convention. Goodman's crime appears to have been defending her colleagues and the freedom of the press.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher told Democracy Now! that Kouddous and Salazar were being arrested on suspicion of rioting. They are currently being held at the Ramsey County jail in St. Paul.
Democracy Now! is calling on all journalists and concerned citizens to call the office of Mayor Chris Coleman and the Ramsey County Jail and demand the immediate release of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar. These calls can be directed to: Chris Rider from Mayor Coleman's office at 651-266-8535 and the Ramsey County Jail at 651-266-9350 (press extension 0).
Democracy Now! stands by Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and condemns this action by Twin Cities law enforcement as a clear violation of the freedom of the press and the First Amendment rights of these journalists.
During the demonstration in which they were arrested law enforcement officers used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades and excessive force. Several dozen others were also arrested during this action.
Amy Goodman is one of the most well-known and well-respected journalists in the United States. She has received journalism's top honors for her reporting and has a distinguished reputation of bravery and courage. The arrest of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar is a transparent attempt to intimidate journalists from the nation's leading independent news outlet.
Democracy Now! is a nationally syndicated public TV and radio program that airs on over 700 radio and TV stations across the US and the globe.

Weird new talking point from the McCain campaign. They're now saying that Sarah Palin, or perhaps we should now be calling her General Palin, is "Commander in Chief" of the Alaska National Guard that is fighting in Iraq. I'm sure the governor is the de jure chief of the state's national guard, but to imply that she's somehow the equivalent of the Commander in Chief of the US military, direct Alaska's forces in the fight against Al Qaeda, running through war plans and launching rocket attacks, is just laughable. Don't take it from me. Take it from the general who runs the Alaska National Guard:
Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard... said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.
Oops.
This interview, below, is simply astounding. CNN's Campbell Brown just obliterates McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds who simply refuses to answer, is unable to answer, the simple question as to what foreign policy experience Palin has. He couldn't name one decision she made as commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Watch the video below or via this link. (at link)

Damning story from ABC tonight (read a shortened transcript here) about GOP parties in Minneapolis while the south drowns. Watch this video. It's completely over the top. One party took place only hours after McCain said most events, other than the most essential, would be shut down today. The party featured a band called "Hookers and Blow" (blow is cocaine), and the guests included the House GOP deputy whip Congressman Bill Schuster (R-PA). A mom with a special needs kid writes us:
I'm the mother of a special needs child, and hopefully my mommy brain can help shed some light on Sarah Palin's strange habits.
Her behavior immediately before (and since) birth does bear some examination. When I was pregnant and supposedly healthy, I canceled a long planned trip to Europe in my third trimester as a precaution. To be fair, Palin had had four healthy pregnancies and wasn't a nervous first timer like me. Plus a Down's baby is usually in normal good health. I'll also stipulate that in Alaska, unlike Arizona, you really do sometimes need a bush plane to get around. Still, once a woman's water breaks, I would personally consider her grounded. If she has any sense at all, she'll arrange to be grounded close to the best medical facilities available.
I'm also a little disturbed by how her decision to give birth to a special needs child is praised, but her decision to spend her time away from that child is completely unexamined. (This is classic behavior from the party that only cares about "life" before birth.) Any five month old baby needs serious time with its mommy. I also doubt that Palin is dragging a breast pump with her on the campaign trail, since it's a bunch of doctors and scientist over at the American Academy of Pediatricians recommending breast feeding for the first year.
My real question about the Palin household is this: Her 17 year old daughter is five months pregnant and getting ready to marry the daddy. When's the daughter's birthday? Has she been 17 for at least five months? How old is the daddy? What are the laws governing such relationships in Alaska? I agree that the girl should be left out of the spotlight as much as possible, but her parents' judgment needs to be thoroughly examined.

Q: What do rightwing blogger John Hawkins and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann have in common?
A: Both have been bumped from covering the Republican convention.
Hawkins didn’t get his application for media credentials approved, he says because of critical posts he has written which irritated the McCain campaign, particularly on immigration. AP reports that Olbermann has been re-assigned.
Keith Olbermann was pulled from St. Paul to anchor MSNBC’s storm coverage from New York, with his seat beside Chris Matthews filled by David Gregory. Capus said political considerations had nothing to do with that move; Olbermann has been sharply critical of the GOP.
You believe that, right? Sounds to me like the McCain campaign only wants McFournier types in attendance.
Noel Sheppard at the rightwing News Busters site is oh-so disappointed about Olbermann’s absence. So just to cheer him up here’s some classic Keith from January -

I live in Alaska and started digging Friday night.
I uncovered a lot of interesting discrepancies but nothing that absolutely proved Trig was not Sarah Palin's child.
But then I got lucky.
I found the MySpace page of Levi, who is supposed to be the father of Bristol's current baby bump.
There were pictures of this young woman holding a newborn baby she identifies as "Trig" in a hospital room, with Sarah Palin standing next to her. Palin is dressed in a sweatshirt and shorts and CLEARLY did not just give birth in the previous day or so.
The MySpace page has been closed, but I saved and posted the photographs here:

the list of `top 10 conservative idiots' has been amended to only 2 to conservative idiots -- McCain and Palin. I can't argue their choice.
but what surprised me is just how LONG the article is. probably twice as much text as their average list.

Experts poised for rare frog hunt
Experts poised for rare frog hunt
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7591050.stm
Scientists are set to begin a hunt for the some of the world's rarest frogs in Costa Rica, including the iconic golden toad, last seen some 20 years ago.
A team from Manchester University and Chester Zoo are in Costa Rica to track down the highly endangered creatures.
BBC News will follow their trek deep into the cloud forests of Monteverde.
Amphibian numbers around the world have crashed, in part because of a deadly fungus. Costa Rica has been particularly badly hit.
Expedition leader Andrew Gray, from the University of Manchester's Manchester Museum, said: "Costa Rica's highlands used to be major biodiversity hotspots - but in many areas, amphibian populations have been completely decimated."
In the late 1980s, herpetologists around the world found that amphibian populations were suffering unprecedented declines, but they struggled to understand exactly why.
A decade later, researchers isolated a previously unknown fungus, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, which was infecting amphibians, effectively suffocating them by making it impossible for them to breathe across their skin.
Recently, the scientists working on the Global Amphibian Assessment estimated that one-third of all amphibians were threatened with extinction and about 120 species had already become extinct since the 1980s.
Many believe the disease caused by the chytrid fungus is a key factor for this crash. Other causes are thought to include habitat destruction and changes in climate.
Countries in Central America have been particularly badly affected by the deadly chytrid fungus, which is widespread there. A great deal of effort is now being put into place to safeguard any remaining species.
ndrew Gray said: "For the last 10 years, I've been working with others to ensure the future for frogs that have so far escaped extinction.
"One of the main things I have been doing is establishing breeding populations in Manchester Museum for a number of very, very rare species - including the splendid leaf frog (Cruziohyla calcarifer), the yellow-eyed leaf frog (Agalychnas annae) and the lemur leaf frog (Hylomantis lemur).
"I've also been working with the Costa Rican authorities and scientists to put conservation measures into place at the sites where any rare frogs are found."
Last year, Mr Gray caught a glimpse of the Ithsmohyla rivularis in the cloud forests of Monteverde - a frog that was thought to have gone extinct about 20 years ago.
He said: "To find this species last year that was thought to have become extinct at the same time as the golden toad was incredible - it is the rarest tree frog in the world."
He has now been given special permission by the Costa Rican authorities to collect some of the frogs to take back to Manchester.
He told the BBC: "We are returning to thoroughly search the site in the hope of finding more specimens.
"It's not going to be easy - they live deep in the Monteverde rainforest, they are only a couple of centimetres in size and they only come out in the dead of night - and while the males do call, the females don't make a sound."
The rediscovery of Ithsmohyla rivularis has spurred the team on to also try to seek out a golden toad (Bufo pereglines).
This colourful amphibian, which scientists only discovered in 1966, became the iconic symbol of amphibian decline. In 1987 there were approximately 1,500 of the toads, but just two years later it had vanished from the face of the rainforest.
Mr Gray said: "We are going to be trekking through an area where the golden toad used to thrive. It is very unlikely we will find one - but as last year's discovery showed us, never say never."
Glad she's out...can't wait to hear the show tomorrow..
Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar Released After Illegal Arrest at RNC
Goodman Charged with Obstruction; Felony Riot Charges Pending Against Kouddous and Salazar
ST. PAUL--Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and producers Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar have all been released from police custody in St. Paul following their illegal arrest by Minneapolis Police on Monday afternoon.
All three were violently manhandled by law enforcement officers. Abdel Kouddous was slammed against a wall and the ground, leaving his arms scraped and bloodied. He sustained other injuries to his chest and back.
Salazar's violent arrest by baton-wielding officers, during which she was slammed to the ground while yelling, "I'm Press! Press!," resulted in her nose bleeding, as well as causing facial pain. Goodman's arm was violently yanked by police as she was arrested.
On Tuesday, Democracy Now! will broadcast video of these arrests, as well as the broader police action. These will also be available on:
www.democracynow.org
Goodman was arrested while questioning police about the unlawful detention of Kouddous and Salazar who were arrested while they carried out their journalistic duties in covering street demonstrations at the Republican National Convention. Goodman's crime appears to have been defending her colleagues and the freedom of the press.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher told Democracy Now! that Kouddous and Salazar were arrested on suspicion of rioting, a felony. While the three have been released, they all still face charges stemming from their unlawful arrest. Kouddous and Salazar face pending charges of suspicion of felony riot, while Goodman has been officially charged with obstruction of a legal process and interference with a "peace officer."
Democracy Now! forcefully rejects all of these charges as false and an attempt at intimidation of these journalists. We demand that the charges be immediately and completely dropped.
Democracy Now! stands by Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and condemns this action by Twin Cities' law enforcement as a clear violation of the freedom of the press and the First Amendment rights of these journalists.
During the demonstration in which the Democracy Now! team was arrested, law enforcement officers used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades and excessive force against protesters and journalists. Several dozen demonstrators were also arrested during this action, including a photographer for the Associated Press.
Amy Goodman is one of the most well-known and well-respected journalists in the United States. She has received journalism's top honors for her reporting and has a distinguished reputation of bravery and courage. The arrest of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and the subsequent criminal charges and threat of charges are a transparent attempt to intimidate journalists.
Democracy Now! is a nationally-syndicated public TV and radio program that airs on over 700 radio and TV stations across the US and the globe.

Witnesses: Air Tanker Lost Parts Before Fatal Crash
Witnesses: Air Tanker Lost Parts Before Fatal Crash
http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=47190&catid=2
RENO, NV (AP) -- A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says a firefighting aircraft has crashed at Reno's Stead Airport, killing everyone on board.
The twin-engine air tanker crashed just after its 6:11 p.m. takeoff about a half-mile from the runway, according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. The tanker was flying to drop retardant on a wildfire that had forced evacuations over the weekend south of Lake Tahoe. It was headed back to make one last drop.
Preliminary reports from witnesses suggest the tanker lost a piece of its engine or a wing before it caught fire and went down, Gregor says.
An eyewitness told KOLO-TV Channel 8 that she saw the back of the plane's engine on fire and a wing on fire before the plane crashed. It also appeared the plane struck a power pole and tumbled, the witness said.
Crews received reports that large pieces of debris were found in the area of the crash.
A brush fire also was reported, but no homes were threatened.
Law enforcement officials were trying to keep motorists away and passersby away from the rural crash site.
The plane was owned by Neptune Aviation of Missoula, Montana.

Oregon man dies in Mexican jail after reported beatings
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/09/oregon_man_dies_in_mexi...
A Yoncalla crab fisherman died while vacationing in Mexico last week after reportedly being beaten by Mexican police near Cabo San Lucas.
Mexican news media outlets along with the Eugene Register-Guard are reporting that Sam Botner, 38, died in custody after he was beaten by multiple officers after his arrest in San Jose del Cabo.
The Tribuna de Los Cabos reported Sunday that a Mexican judge has ordered a 30-day hold for five officers and their commander, all of whom are being investigated for Botner's death.
Police responded to the La Jolla condominiums Wednesday after a fight reportedly
broke out between Botner and another man, according to another newspaper, La Jornada.
Botner reportedly resisted arrest and had to be restrained by officers. He was taken into
custody and died at a local jail. Accounts vary on whether Botner got into a fight with a
condo security guard or another guest.
Botner's wife, Kim, told KGW that the couple had traveled to Mexico to celebrate his return from Alaska. On Wednesday, they had returned from dinner and he stayed at the condo while she went to the beach. She later heard him shouting and returned to find that he had gotten into a confrontation and fight with a condo security officer. She also said he resisted arrest.
Botner's wife told KGW that he was resisting officers but he didn't deserve to die. "I've seen 29 pictures after they arrested him, and they beat him to death," she told KGW.

"Corona Radiata" is the eighth track on the Nine Inch Nails album The Slip. It is an instrumental track, and at 7:34 is the longest on the album. It is also the longest studio song by NIN (the second is "Memorabilia").
Corona Radiata are several protective layers surrounding ova or unfertilized egg cells, responsible with supplying the ova or egg cell with protein. The artwork for the song most probably represents an egg cell with the distinct corona radiata surrounding it. This might be a lead in to some sort of impregnation with the Demon Seed, implied by the red line.
The song begins with a calm and serene tone as if listening to the inside of a womb. Towards the end, drums and other effects fade in, almost like an assault from the outside. Finally, as the song closes suddenly, overlapping screams from an infant and other effects are heard.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy was an open secret back home

Bristol Palin
He's a superhunky bad-boy ice hockey player from cold country; she's a chestnut-haired beauty and popular high school senior.
The all-American teen twosome will make GOP vice presidential pick and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin a grandma at age 44 - just in time for Christmas.
Doe-eyed Bristol Palin, 17, and ruggedly handsome Levi Johnston, an 18-year-old self-described "f---in' redneck," have been dating a year, locals in Wasilla, Alaska, told the Daily News.
And the pregnancy? An open secret in the close-knit town of 9,780.
PHOTOS: MEET SARAH PALIN AND HER FAMILY
Bristol Palin, now a senior, was frequently seen cheering her young beau from the stands. Levi is also a senior.
Wasilla mom Jennie Johnston, whose son Jade played hockey with Levi, saw the young couple in January at a game.
"She was in a cute little outfit like young girls wear," said Jennie Johnston, who is not related to Levi. "She was with Levi."
She said her son told her the two were already engaged.
COMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE RNC
"They've been together quite a while, more than a year," she said. "I hope everything comes out well. These are local kids."
Johnston, broad-chested and wearing a No. 15 jersey, can be seen in photographs hitting the boards as a Warrior in action.
A closeup shot shows the handsome teen with a light dusting of whiskers on his chin - his dark brown hair curly and wet.
"Levi has got huge potential," Jennie Johnston said. "He's a smart kid."
Sarah Palin admitted yesterday her "beautiful daughter" Bristol was five months pregnant and would marry Levi. The baby is due in late December.
In a photo taken on Aug. 28, Palin holds her infant brother Trig close to her belly during a campaign rally where Sen. John McCain introduced her mom as his running mate.
The campaign released word of the teen's pregnancy to knock down claims on Internet blogs that the teen - not her mom - secretly gave birth to Trig, who has Down syndrome.
Well-liked Warrior
Wasilla Warriors' coach Bill Sturdevant said he never believed that talk.
"He was the same kid from the beginning of the season to the end. No signs of anything like that," the coach said.
"He was a good kid to be around, with lots of friends. He was well-liked."
A telephone number for Levi Johnston's parents, Sherry and Keith Johnston, was disconnected.
Bristol's pregnancy was no secret in the town that lies wedged between two mountain ranges.
The mother of one of Levi's friends, who asked not to be named, told The News that locals knew about Bristol's pregnancy for weeks.
Besides his hard play on the ice, Levi Johnston was also a bit of a hell-raiser off it - another reason Bristol may have been smitten.
State troopers popped Johnston last year for snagging some king salmon out of season in Moose Lake, records from Alaska wildlife enforcement show. He had to pay $370 bail.
On his MySpace page, Johnston proudly declares: "I'm a f---in' redneck."
"I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing," he says on the site.
He also warns that if anyone messes with him, "I'll kick ass."
The Web site, before it was removed, appeared not to have been accessed for a year.
On it, he admits to having a girlfriend.
On the part where it asks about children, he wrote, "I don't want kids."
Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School, told the Chicago Tribune that Bristol started her junior year last fall, in the town where Sarah Palin grew up.
He said Bristol inexplicably transferred to an Anchorage high school midyear, leaving Levi behind.
"I never heard the story why," he said.

Excerpts:
Jake Tapper: Governor Palin and her husband issued a statement today saying that their 17 year old daughter Bristol who is unmarried is 5 months pregnant. Do you have a comment?
Barack Obama sez:
I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be as clear as possible. I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits.
This shouldn’t be part of our politics, it has no relevance to governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president.
And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18.
And how family deals with issues and teenage children that shouldn't be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that is off limits.
Jeff Zeleny: an unnamed McCain advisor as reported on Reuters that the despicable rumors have been spread on blogs some even with Barack Obama's name on them.
BO:
I am offended by that statement, there is no evidence at all that any of this involved us. I hope I am as clear as I can be. So in case I am not, let me repeat, we don’t go after people’s families, we don’t get them involved in the politics, it is not appropriate and it is not relevant.
Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought it was somebody in the campaign that was involved in something like that they would be fired. Ok. Alright guys. Thank you.

Irish Twins??
The term “Irish twins” refers to two siblings born in the same calendar year, or otherwise less than twelve months apart. It’s a deeply derogatory term about the stereotypical fecundity (and lack of contraception) of Irish Catholic families.
Irish Twin fortunately can't be applied to Bristol Palin cause she's NOT Catholic. Hallelujah!!
Praise the Lord!!
Disclosures on Palin Raise Questions on Vetting Process
Disclosures on Palin Raise Questions on Vetting Process
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/us/politics/02vetting.html?ref=us
ST. PAUL — A series of disclosures about Gov. Sarah Palin, Senator John McCain’s choice as running mate, called into question on Monday how thoroughly Mr. McCain had examined her background before putting her on the Republican presidential ticket.
On Monday morning, Ms. Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement saying that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, was five months pregnant and that she intended to marry the father.
Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge.
Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice. The campaign was still calling Republican operatives as late as Sunday night asking them to go to Alaska to deal with the unexpected candidacy of Ms. Palin.
Although the McCain campaign said that Mr. McCain had known about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he asked her mother to join him on the ticket and that he did not consider it disqualifying, top aides were vague on Monday about how and when he had learned of the pregnancy, and from whom.
While there was no sign that her formal nomination this week was in jeopardy, the questions swirling around Ms. Palin on the first day of the Republican National Convention, already disrupted by Hurricane Gustav, brought anxiety to Republicans who worried that Democrats would use the selection of Ms. Palin to question Mr. McCain’s judgment and his ability to make crucial decisions.
At the least, Republicans close to the campaign said it was increasingly apparent that Ms. Palin had been selected as Mr. McCain’s running mate with more haste than McCain advisers initially described.
Up until midweek last week, some 48 to 72 hours before Mr. McCain introduced Ms. Palin at a Friday rally in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. McCain was still holding out the hope that he could choose a good friend, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, a Republican close to the campaign said. Mr. McCain had also been interested in another favorite, former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania.
But both men favor abortion rights, anathema to the Christian conservatives who make up a crucial base of the Republican Party. As word leaked out that Mr. McCain was seriously considering the men, the campaign was bombarded by outrage from influential conservatives who predicted an explosive floor fight at the convention and vowed rejection of Mr. Ridge or Mr. Lieberman by the delegates.
Perhaps more important, several Republicans said, Mr. McCain was getting advice that if he did not do something to shake up the race, his campaign would be stuck on a potentially losing trajectory.
With time running out — and as Mr. McCain discarded two safer choices, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, as too predictable — he turned to Ms. Palin. He had his first face-to-face interview with her on Thursday and offered her the job moments later. Advisers to Mr. Pawlenty and another of the finalists on Mr. McCain’s list described an intensive vetting process for those candidates that lasted one to two months.
“They didn’t seriously consider her until four or five days from the time she was picked, before she was asked, maybe the Thursday or Friday before,” said a Republican close to the campaign. “This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn’t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge.”
In the final stages, two Republicans familiar with the process said, Mr. McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, emerged as a key advocate for Ms. Palin.
Mr. McCain’s advisers said repeatedly on Monday that Ms. Palin was “thoroughly vetted,” a process that would have included a review of all financial and legal records as well as a criminal background check. A McCain aide said the campaign was well aware of the ethics investigation and had looked into it.
“It was obviously something that anybody Googling Sarah Palin knew was in the news and there was a very thorough vetting done on that and also on the daughter,” the aide said.
People familiar with the process said Ms. Palin had responded to a standard form with more than 70 questions. Although The Washington Post quoted advisers to Mr. McCain on Sunday as saying Ms. Palin had been subjected to an F.B.I. background check, an F.B.I. official said Monday the bureau did not vet potential candidates and had not known of her selection until it was made public.

Kitten is rescued from hurricane Gustav
BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. - --
What began as an updated report on the scene at Bayou La Batre, quickly became a kitten rescue mission. But the rescue wasn't a success out-of-the-box!
Fox Ten photojournalist Vania Kuy and I were updating the flood scene at Shell Belt Road in Bayou La Batre on Monday morning. The road was closed just hours after an initial report from the area. During a report, a small kitten began to meow and whimper loudly in a field located off of the intersection of Shell Belt Road and Highway 188.
In the middle of the report, Vania and I tried to rescue the kitten from the strong rain and wind, but the kitten quickly ran away. Upon finishing the report, we went back to grab the kitten and bring it to safety. I used a towel and tried to wrap up the kitten, but it was so frightened it squirmed and fled.
During our second attempt, Vania tried to grab the kitten. Again, unsuccessfully. This time the small, seemingly malnourished kitten ran into a marshy area where it became lost in the tall grass. However, we continued to hear the kitten meow, and after searching through the marsh, we found the kitten again.
This time, I wrapped up the kitten in the towel and picked him up. And once in the comfortable warmth of a dry towel, the previously-startled kitten quickly changed demeanor, and enjoyed the make-shift blanket.
After we grabbed the kitten, Bayou La Batre councilman Henry Barnes drove by, and we wanted to interview him on the latest area information. Not knowing what to do with the kitten, I just held him in one arm, while I held the mic out and interviewed Barnes with the other.
Upon completing the interview, we drove to the Bayou La Batre Fire Department and gave them the kitten.
After reporting our little adventure on the news, our station was quickly greeted with phone calls and e-mails from several caring viewers - all voicing their concern for the kitten. Several of the e-mails even offered new names for the little stray - including "Cat 2", "Bayou Cary", and "Cat Chow."
The little kitten even caught the attention of national networks like CNN.
But most importantly of all, the kitten is safe and will go to a happy home.

Despair not! For though dark they stand,
All woods there be must end at last,
And see the open sun go past:
The setting sun, the rising sun,
The day's end, or the day begun.
For east or west all woods must fail.

It's the Constitution. It's the law.
For the record, I strongly disagree with Sarah Palin on many issues.
However, Ms. Palin has her own rights protected under state and federal laws and constitutions.
Ms. Palin is protected from her parents (including Sarah Palin) and others who may attempt to invade her privacy.
By the way, I like the fact that Ms. Palin (and other women) can make her own choices about her pregnancy and reproductive health care without obtaining the permission of her parents and/or others. [She is legally old enough now.]
Ms. Palin is not responsible for the decisions and views of her parents. She has her own individual rights.
Do you think that Ms. Palin expected her mother to be selected as a VP candidate?

Gustav revives question: Is New Orleans worth it?
What a bunch of Rethug Hypocritical Assholes..
If something happened to their town they would be crying the loudest..
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Those who love New Orleans say Hurricane Gustav is proof that the billions of dollars spent to protect the city and bring it back to life after the devastating 2005 storm season was worth it.
But what if Gustav had been stronger, a category 4 instead of a 2, and hit the city directly instead of 70 miles to the west? Even Gustav's glancing blow put the city at brink of inundation, waves splashing over the tops of its levees. Would it be worth the cost to rebuild New Orleans again if the storm were worse?
"That's a question that was there before and after (Hurricane) Katrina, and I think is going to come to the forefront again," said Don Powell, who oversaw the Bush administration's effort to rebuild the Gulf Coast in 2005.
"There's a lot of reasons to continue," Powell said Monday, his voice trailing off. "That's a debate we will continue to have."

Blockbuster NY Times piece on the Sarah Palin vetting disaster

(NOTE: NYT link is correct now, sorry.)
The comedy of errors that is John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin continues. Except, when the issue is picking a potential leader of our nation in a time of war, it shouldn't be a comedy and it shouldn't be filled with errors.
Read this blockbuster article in tomorrow's New York Times. There is so much in it. The article reveals that John McCain didn't get the vice president he wanted (Joe Lieberman or Tom Ridge) because the religious right, which controls the GOP (and now controls John McCain), went ballistic on McCain last week because both Lieberman and Ridge are pro-choice. So McCain caved. Because of McCain's kowtowing to the theocrats, he hurriedly dumped Lieberman and Ridge and instead picked the very anti-abortion, but not much else, Palin without even fully vetting her.
Now, sure, the McCain campaign is claiming that Palin was "thoroughly vetted." But, that is clearly not true - the Times talked to all the key players in Alaska, and none of them were approached by the McCain campaign. In fact, McCain's vetter only just arrived in Alaska on Thursday, the day before McCain announced Palin as his VP choice.
This failure is actually quite stunning on many levels. It's just so fundamental to the process, the vetting of a vice presidential choice, that failing to do it properly is pretty much campaign malpractice. Clearly, Sarah Palin was not seriously vetted. An excerpt from the Times:
In Alaska, several state leaders and local officials said they knew of no efforts by the McCain campaign to find out more information about Ms. Palin before the announcement of her selection, Although campaigns are typically discreet when they make inquiries into potential running mates, officials in Alaska said Monday they thought it was peculiar that no one in the state had the slightest hint that Ms. Palin might be under consideration.
“They didn’t speak to anyone in the Legislature, they didn’t speak to anyone in the business community,” said Lyda Green, the State Senate president, who lives in Wasilla, where Ms. Palin served as mayor.
Representative Gail Phillips, a Republican and former speaker of the State House, said the widespread surprise in Alaska when Ms. Palin was named to the ticket made her wonder how intensively the McCain campaign had vetted her.
“I started calling around and asking, and I have not been able to find one person that was called,” Ms. Phillips said. “I called 30 to 40 people, political leaders, business leaders, community leaders. Not one of them had heard. Alaska is a very small community, we know people all over, but I haven’t found anybody who was asked anything.”
The current mayor of Wasilla, Dianne M. Keller, said she had not heard of any efforts to look into Ms. Palin’s background. And Randy Ruedrich, the state Republican Party chairman, said he knew nothing of any vetting that had been conducted.
State Senator Hollis French, a Democrat who is directing the ethics investigation, said that no one asked him about the allegations. “I heard not a word, not a single contact,” he said.
Mr. French, a former prosecutor, said that he was knowledgeable about background checks and that, he, too, was surprised that the campaign had not reached out to state legislative leaders.
We've been saying for the past couple of days that this pick says more about John McCain than Sarah Palin. It really does. John McCain caved to the anti-abortion theocrats running the Republican party, made a hasty pick for his v.p., and is now suffering the consequences.

is that why ghouliani is giving the keynote tonight?

Come on girls. Let's have a little talkie poo. We know why McCain picked that hillbilly, Barbie Doll. He is the typical womanizer. And where is the womanizer's brain located? You've got it girls. He took one look at that Sarah - and saw the red, white and booty. The old dumb-ass!
It looks like some of the arresting "officers" were not

makes you wonder if the talk about infiltrators is just a cover up for domestic wiretapping on a grand scale. plus it has the added benefit of spreading distrust among everyone you are with.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

What's galling is this: When the subject is a pregnancy to an unwed, minority teenage mother growing up in some -- presumably Democratic -- urban area, that pregnancy becomes fodder for lectures from conservatives about bad parenting, the perils of welfare spending and so on.

Who wants to win so badly that he will do anything to win?
McCain Hires Strategist Who Smeared Him
Republican strategist Tucker Eskew, who helped smear John McCain in the 2000 primaries, is now on board the GOP candidate’s campaign and will prep Sarah Palin for her role, reports Jake Tapper on ABC News. “He's one of the best and most collaborative talents in Republican politics,” a McCain rep tells Politico. McCain’s 2000 team was less appreciative.
That year, as George W. Bush’s South Carolina spokesman, Eskew was responsible for polling calls to voters alerting them to McCain’s connection to the Keating Five political scandal. As Bush turned to Eskew for help in the Florida recount, a 2000 McCain rep told Tapper, “When the going gets tough for Gov. Bush, he turns to the darker side of our party. We saw that in South Carolina, and we see that today."
