When this is over you should say one thing that Obama said that did inspire your confidence.

What ever happened to `with
What ever happened to `with us or against us'?
does that only work for Afghanistan and Iraq?
I think it is entirely fair to tell Pakistan if they don't take care of the problem, we will.
I would rather we not do it...but if we can finally get Osama, do it.

Navy records (on USS Forrestal incident in July 1967) given to the neo-cons to blackmail McCain

What have sealed Navy records given to the neo-cons to blackmail McCain? Plenty, according to eyewitness on the USS Forrestal.
According to an eyewitness to the Navy's worst fire disaster that killed 134 sailors and injured 62, McCain and the Forrestal's skipper, Capt. John K. Beling, were warned about the danger of using M-65 1000-lb. bombs manufactured in 1935, which were deemed too dangerous to use during World War II and, later, on B-52 bombers. The fire from the Zuni misfire resulted in the heavy 1000 pounders being knocked loose from the pylons of McCain's A-4, which were only designed to hold 500-pound bombs.
During the fighting of the fire and while VF-74 and VF-11 were still counting their dead, McCain was helicoptered off the Forrestal to the USS Oriskany, which suffered a major fire on October 27, 1966, that killed 44 sailors. In that event, thousand pound bombs were jettisoned away from the fire but the lessons of the Oriskany went unheeded by the Forrestal's officers, including McCain, who served with the VA-163 Saints on board the Oriskany when the fire on that vessel occurred. On October 26, 1967, McCain was shot down over North Vietnam during a bombing sortie from the Oriskany.
Aug. 29, 2005 -- Bush celebrating McCain's 69th birthday with a cake. Bush and his operatives may have more than a cake up their sleeves when it comes to McCain's Navy record prior to his time as a POW.
The unstable bombs had a 60-second cook-off threshold in a fire situation and this warning was known to both Beling and McCain prior to the disaster. On January 14, 1969, the USS Enterprise, steaming 75 miles southwest of Pearl Harbor, suffered a major fire. In that episode, similar unstable 1000-pound bombs detonated, killing 27 sailors and injuring more than 100. At the time of the Enterprise disaster, the Commander-in- Chief of US Pacific Forces was Adm. John S. McCain, Jr.,Sen. McCain's father.
At the time of the Forrestal disaster, Admiral McCain was Commander-in-Chief of US Naval Forces Europe (CINCUSNAVEUR) and was busy covering up the details of the deadly and pre-meditated Israeli attack on the NSA spy ship, the USS Liberty, on June 8, 1967. The fact that both McCains were involved in two incidents just weeks apart that resulted in a total death count of 168 on the Forrestal and the Liberty, with an additional injury count of 234 on both ships (with a number of them later dying from their wounds) with an accompanying classified paper trail inside the Pentagon, may be all that was needed to hold a Sword of Damocles over the head of the "family honor"-oriented (McCain's persona is supported by his book about his father and grandfather, both Navy admirals, titled "Faith of My Fathers") and the "straight talking" McCain.
Arrggh
McCain is a disused douchebag better off as a colonic. He is not my friend, never will be. He stiffly walks back and forth like grandpa night of the living dead. He is a liar, cheat, and a thief.

--------
10:13: McCain misquoted his “hero” Teddy Roosevelt tonight, quoting him as saying, “Walk — Talk softly and carry a big stick. The exact quote is: “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
10:11: McCain suggested that he opposed Ronald Reagan’s deployment of US forces to Lebanon. In fact, he initially favored deploying the troops and only later argued for their withdrawal making arguments, one should note, that sound an awful lot like the arguments for redeploying from Iraq that he now deplores.
10:08: McCain doesn’t seem to understand that General David Petraeus currently heads up U.S. Central Command and is not at all the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
10:06: McCain just said that if we’d withdrawn from Iraq, Iranian influence would have increased and Al Qaeda would have set up a base. Both of these things happened because we invaded Iraq.
10:03: Discussing when to intervene militarily, McCain mentioned Kosovo. Back in 2000, McCain referred to the conduct of the Kosovo intervention as “the most obscene chapter in recent American history.”
Tell us John
How are we gunna get him? Or at least tell the CIA. He is completely pathetic and he is looking very tired, and very small.

It's so silly. I'll invade Pakistan, but I won't tell you that I will. Cuz I know how to get Osmam Bin Laden, but we can't tell you how, cuz that tells him how we will.

Another John McCain Moment - "I'll say anything....."
Privately, McCain brags that he was the "original neocon." And after 9/11, he took the lead in agitating for war with Iraq, outpacing even Dick Cheney in the dissemination of bogus intelligence about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. "There's other organizations besides Mr. bin Laden who are bent on the destruction of the United States," he warned in an appearance on Hardball on September 12th. "It isn't just Afghanistan. We're talking about Syria, Iraq, Iran, perhaps North Korea, Libya and others." A few days later, he told Jay Leno's audience that "some other countries" — possibly Iraq, Iran and Syria — had aided bin Laden.
A month after 9/11, with the U.S. bombing Kabul and reeling from the anthrax scare, McCain assured David Letterman that "we'll do fine" in Afghanistan. He then added, unbidden, "The second phase is Iraq. Some of this anthrax may — and I emphasize may — have come from Iraq."

And The Drinking Word Winner Is:
"Fundamental."
Both candidates voiced "fundamental" more than any other drinking word by my count.
Sometimes they used it twice in the same sentence.
(It's not the fundamental difference between McCain and Obama.)
----
10:23: McCain said that when he looks into Putin’s eyes, he sees the letters K-G-B. But in 2001, after President Bush looked into Putin’s eyes and saw his soul, McCain gave him “an A” for how he did in his meeting with Putin.
10:21: McCain argued that the U.S. needs to execute the “same” surge strategy in Afghanistan as we’ve had in Iraq, but Gen. David D. McKiernan, the new top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, “stated emphatically that no Iraq-style ’surge’ of forces will end the conflict there.” (UPDATE: Gen. Petraeus also disagrees with McCain.)
Obama shoud have agreed to more

"THe One" cufflinks anti obama
Good or bad, you can't accuse the John McCain campaign of not having a sense of humor.
The Republican presidential candidate's staff handed out cufflinks -- yes, cufflinks -- on Tuesday to surprised reporters with an unexpected decoration on top: a mock presidential seal for rival Democrat Barack Obama and the Illinois senator's web site.
That's not all. On the back, carefully engraved, were the words "The One."

10:29: It’s worth noting that if Iran attacked Israel, there would be no need to wait for a UN Security Council resolution even according to the UN Charter before responding. Article 51 of Chapter VII of the UN Charter enshrines the “inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations.”
10:25: McCain said Russia has to understand that “they are facing a strong and determined America.” Fortunately, from her well-positioned perch in Alaska, Sarah Palin has been keeping a close eye on Putin for any time he might “rear his head.”
10:24: People who submit questions via the Internet are nameless during this debate. Brokaw has introduced them as a “question from the Internet,” unlike the audience members who are identified by their full names.

Los Angeles Times:
In answer after answer, the two men can’t resist arguing over their prospective records and how they voted on this bill or that bill, despite the general perception that both the questioners in the hall and the audience in general would prefer forward-looking responses.
This may, in part, be one of the wages of having two senators squaring off against each other –- they simply can’t resist lapsing into the tried-and-true debating habits of legislators.
Marc Ambinder:
Obama's reference to his mom's death was pretty powerful...I think his best moment so far. And he seems much more at ease discussing health care and defending his plan than McCain does explaining or defending his.
Karen Tumulty at Time:
Summing up? I'm not sure this was a good night for Barack Obama, but I think it was a bad night for John McCain. And these last two debates were supposed to be his best ones.
Ari Melber at The Nation:
John McCain did not have the debate he needed on Tuesday night.
McCain's style was aggressive, disciplined and occasionally punchy. He heaped criticism on Barack Obama, blasting his record on taxes, health care and earmarks, and at one point derisively called the Democratic nominee "That One." McCain made over 14 references to the candidates' "records," pleading with voters to put aside Obama's words and inspect his history. ...
Before the debate had even ended, the Republican National Committee was already spinning a disappointing night for McCain. In the 10pm hour, an RNC spokesperson sent reporters a post by Politico's Ben Smith, "Not really a town hall," complaining about the format.

McCain didn’t answer half the questions that were asked. He just kept repeating, over and over like a mantra, “I know how to do that.” Yet, he didn’t bother to ever explain how he would do it. McCain seemed desperate, his voice was shaking, his jerky, aimless walking around showed his nervousness. Fixing Social Security is easy, he says. Huh? I guess his way, eliminating it or privatizing it, is easier than fixing it.
McCain’s constant personal attacks, with no real substance to his answers, shows the desperation of a failing campaign and an empty message. McCain is just more of the same, and I shudder to contemplate the consequences of that.
Take me out of the undecided column. Obama/Biden will get my vote.

I’m still undecided, but I gave it to Obama. I didn’t like when McCain said that we will allow individual that purchased to much house to get the house re-apprasied and only be responsible for the new apprasal amount. This is unfair to the individual that did right and purchased what they could afford.

I think McCain did a great job. I’m afraid of Obama because he’s a slick talker and he has everyone fooled. People think just because celebrities back him that he’s a “good guy”. Several of his shady dealings have be discovered but the lib media won’t discuss them. AND - since when are celebrities ever affected by what the government does? They can just pack up and move to the next country when they want.

Since the media is owned by about seven companies and big business, how in the world is the media liberal?
When John McCain repeatedly says, “I know how to get him,” when talking about Osama bin Laden. No specifics follow.
“I know” may be the McCain mantra of the night, but it’s unclear how claiming he knows how to achieve something the entire country wants but has yet to see happen makes any sense. If he knows, why hasn’t he told President Bush?
Obama on the other hand, was the one talking about his desire to launch strikes in Pakistan even without that government’s permission!

Latin leftists gloating over 'Comrade' Bush's bailout
More on this Story
By Tyler Bridges | McClatchy Newspapers
CARACAS, Venezuela — They don't call him President Bush in Venezuela anymore.
Now he's known as "Comrade."
With the Bush administration's Treasury Department resorting to government bailout after government bailout to keep the U.S. economy afloat, leftist governments and their political allies in Latin America are having a field day, gloating one day and taunting Bush the next for adopting the types of interventionist government policies that he's long condemned.
"We were just talking about that this morning on the floor," said Congressman Edwin Castro, who heads the leftist Sandinista congressional bloc in Nicaragua. "We think the Bush administration should follow the same policies that they and the International Monetary Fund have always told us to follow when we have economic problems — a structural adjustment that requires cutting government spending and reducing the role of government.
"One of our economists was telling us that Bush has just implemented communism for the rich," Castro said.
No one in Latin America has been making more hay of Bush's turnabout than Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, a self-proclaimed socialist who is the U.S.'s biggest headache in the region.
"If the Venezuelan government, for example, approves a law to protect consumers, they say, 'Take notice, Chavez is a tyrant!'" Chavez said in one of his recent weekly television shows.
"Or they say, 'Chavez is regulating prices. He is violating the laws of the marketplace.' How many times have they criticized me for nationalizing the phone company? They say, 'The state shouldn't get involved in that.' But now they don't criticize Bush for having nationalize . . . the biggest banks in the world. Comrade Bush, how are you?"
The audience laughed and Chavez continued.
"Comrade Bush is heading toward socialism."

I've been trolling the Wingnut sites. They have pretty much
surrendered. McCains poor performance in this debate has crushed them. That mortgage bailout comment he made still has them spinning.
Even the jokers at Clownhall appear to be ready to throw in the towel. All except Malkin, of course. But then again, she never really was the brightest penny in the jar anyway.
In March I predicted Obama would win this election by the largest margin of victory in US history (which I think is about 25%). Although I was probably just being flip at the time, it now appears that might actually happen.
I've been aware of the voter suppression efforts, and the possibilities of major election fraud, but everything I am seeing tells me no one is willing to risk serious jail time for McCrepit.
Tonites debate seems to have ended McCain, at least according to many of his supporters.
Sorry I missed it.
Obama action:
Instead of talking about the issues that are most important to Americans, the McCain campaign decided to change the subject to attacking Barack.
We put together an ad to remind voters that it's time for a President who will change the economy and change Washington, not change the subject. Watch the video, then use your grassroots network to make sure people hear this vital message.

When McCain is blocking Brokaw's camera at the end,
that is because he has crossed over to Obama, appears to be shaking his hand, you can see Obama pat McCain on the back.
Then McCain realizes he is in the shot and awkwardly backs away.
Then they are circling the crowd and McCain and Michelle cross paths and shake hands. Then a few moments later the husbands and wives are grouped closer together and Obama shakes Cindy's hand.
Yes it looks like Obama reaches toward John and he directs him to Cindy, but to me I don't see any slights happening.

Fourth Marriage
Fourth Marriage
A woman, married three times, walked into a bridal shop one day and told the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth wedding.
"Of course, madam," replied the sales clerk, "exactly what type and color are you looking for?"
The bride to be said: "A long frilly white dress with a veil."
The sales clerk hesitated a bit, then said, "Please don't take this the wrong way, but gowns of that nature are considered more appropriate for brides who are being married the first ! time - for those who are a bit more
innocent, if you know what I mean? Perhaps ivory or sky blue would be nice?"
"Well," replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk's directness, "I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate.
Believe it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a first time bride.
You see, my first husband was so excited about our wedding, he died as we were checking into our hotel. My second husband and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our honeymoon that we had that wedding annulled immediately and
never spoke to each other again."
"What about your third husband?" asked the sales clerk.
"That one was a Republican," said the woman, "and every night for four years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was going to be , but nothing ever happened.."

Berkeley Breathed's 'Opus' Comic Strip Will End Next Month
By Dave Astor
Published: October 06, 2008
NEW YORK "Opus" is ending Nov. 2, Washington Post Writers Group (WPWG) Comics Editor Amy Lago announced this afternoon.
In this Sept. 8 blog post, E&P had wondered if Berkeley Breathed might pull the plug on his Sunday-only strip -- given all the hints the cartoonist was making about that in his comic.
"Opus," which began almost five years ago, will be the third comic Breathed ends. The first and most famous was the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Bloom County" (1980-1989), followed by "Outland" (1989-1995). "Bloom County" had about 1,300 clients when it stopped.
Breathed, who has done a number of children's books, insists that this time he's getting out of the comics business for good. He joked in a statement that the best way he can help his country during the current financial and political crisis is to "write funny stories for America's kids. I call on John McCain to join me."
WPWG Editorial Director/General Manager Alan Shearer praised Breathed, saying the cartoonist "pushed all sorts of topical and stylistic envelopes" and "influenced a generation of new cartoonists."
Lago said Breathed is ending his comic with a contest asking readers to guess Opus the penguin's fate. Currently, the character is in prison courtesy of U.S. authorities. The actual solution will be available only on the Internet, not in newspapers, according to WPWG.
In addition to doing children's books, Breathed in recent years has worked on screenplays and novels. His "Pete & Pickles" kids' book is due in stores Oct. 16, and the Californian is finishing a novel for young readers called "Flawed Dogs."

FCC to Probe Defense Department's 'Propaganda' Program
By E&P Staff
Published: October 07, 2008
NEW YORK The Federal Communications Commission has announced that it will investigate a Department of Defense propaganda program to determine whether news networks or military analysts violated the Communications Act of 1934 and FCC rules.
Earlier this year, The New York Times reported that a Department of Defense program had ex-military officers presenting the Bush administration’s position on the War on Terror as objective analysis on major television news programs and 24-hour cable news networks. Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro and Congressman John Dingell wrote to the FCC to investigate allegations that the news networks and the analysts failed to disclose the ex-military officers’ ties to the Pentagon -- and if that violated sponsorship identification requirements in the Communications Act.
“Given the revelations in the [New York Times] article, had the FCC not heeded our request for an investigation, it would have raised serious questions about their oversight capabilities. I am pleased with today's news, but will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the FCC fully investigates the networks in addition to the analysts,” DeLauro said in a
statement Tuesday.

"Obama had made some gains on the leadership issue even before the debate," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. Global coordinated interest rate cut of half percent

This global move is an encouraging sign that governments around the world appreciate the seriousness of this problem. There is no magic wand or miracle cure to the problems that we have but sitting around and waiting for more failures without action is definitely wrong. Nothing is going to stop the market declines but this may be a starting point for getting money flowing again.
Central banks around the world Wednesday cut interest rates amid mounting losses in financial markets, as the credit crunch continued to seize up lending.
The Federal Reserve lowered its federal funds rate a half a point to 1.50 percent. It also lowered its discount rate as well. The Fed, whose decision was unanimous, last cut rates a quarter point in April.
Central banks in the UK, European Union, Switzerland and elsewhere participated in the move.
The action comes after days of growing pressure on central banks to act together to stem mounting panic in the financial markets.

$2 trillion in retirement
$2 trillion in retirement savings wiped out
Chris in Paris · 10/08/2008 03:58:00 AM ET · Link
Make a comment · reddit · FARK · Digg It! · Stumble It!
I realize that the much larger problem today is that the lending system is shut down but long term, losing $2 trillion (and likely a heck of a lot more) is unthinkable. We have friends who have lost 20% since opening an IRA at the start of the year, though that was the figure three weeks ago. It's surely much worse now. Will the market bounce back? Probably, but how long is it going to take to recoup those losses? How many lost months, possibly years will it be? Americans rely on the success of Wall Street for their retirement much more today than in the past so whether we like or dislike Wall Street, we're stuck with the results.
I started my business career working with Japan so I've always had the bubble stuck in my head and today I can't help but think about the Nikkei peaking at almost 39,000 at the end of 1989. Today the Nikkei fell over 9% and is sitting barely above 9,200. Japan has never bounced back from the 1980's bubble. The economic dynamics of the two countries are obviously different but even Wall Street stagnated in a tight range of trading for most of the 1970s, offering little growth.
Now that this is very much a world problem, central banks are all offering plans to rescue their system. A global coordinated effort would be ideal though in such a climate of panic, this will be a challenge. This morning the British government announced a new $350 billion plan to back up the banks and (in theory) force them to lend to consumers and small business. The banks will also have to slash (or cut completely) dividends and "take into consideration" executive compensation, for whatever that's worth. Remember, the UK population is only 60 million, so these are substantial figures.
European markets are falling hard out of the gate (5% to over 6%) so we may be seeing the next round of emergency action in the US very soon.

A thinking person would have understood that Reagan's ideology was flawed, if for no other reason, because it is the "absolute" position of libertarianism. Few questions are answered by an absolute ideology.
On the other side are people like myself who believe in the merit of regulation but not absolute regulation. In fact, absolute regulation is impossible (infinity?) while absolute deregulation is not.
The Reagan quote damns government intervention and enough people bought into it (because hating government is an easy package to sell) for it to have become the mindset of the land for decades.
that's beautiful toniD
Thank you for the picture. Off to the saw mill for me now.
Hello sederville and bloggerati
Was there really anything new in the "debate" last night? I think not. I don't think there was much substance to it, really - a few jabs, a few fleeting references to "my plan..."
Good Morning peeps
wow--- McSame is a REAL asshole. & please I'm NOT your friend.
What a blow out as far as Obama is concerned. I wish that he (Obama)
would fess up to the fact that Russia did not strike first - it was Georgia
that lit that match first. What about "Clean Coal" didn't know there was
]such a thing-ee. Finally "NO NUKES" @ all. Nothing, nadda -
Well I am officially a "New Home Owner" my god - I have been working
on this for almost 9 months.
I signed the old papers yesterday - jeez I got writers cramp. Now all
that is left is moving stuff in the house. Which as a lot of you know is
a BIG pain in the ass. But this time its a good pain in the ass.
Hope you all are well today - & didn't get 2 drunk last night on drinking
games.
and another thing
yet again - i shudder when I hear "bipartisan..." have thes Rethugs ever tried to be "bipartisan?" Get a spine!!
"Surge" Of Iraq Bombings Continues
Meanwhile, the string of suicide bombings in Iraq continues. All of these are part of the "Surge Success" that McCain continual cites.

Suicide bomber kills 9 in Baqouba
By SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD - A female suicide bomber detonated an explosives vest Wednesday in a city northeast of Baghdad, killing nine people and wounding 21, Iraqi officials said.
The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. in front of a courthouse in downtown Baqouba, the provincial capital of Diyala, one of Iraq's most violent areas, police said.
It was apparently intended to be a double suicide bombing, but a man accompanying the woman failed to detonate his explosives vest and was arrested at the scene, provincial council chief Ibrahim Bajilan said.
"We were inside the court building when we heard a thunderous explosion followed by people's cries," said Abu Mohammed, a 55-year-old lawyer in the courthouse at the time. "We rushed outside the building. We couldn't see anything because smoke was everywhere."
Abu Mohammed, who would only give his nickname for security reasons, said the target appeared to be Iraqi army Humvees parked nearby. He said about five shops in front of the courthouse were damaged.
Baqouba and surrounding areas have been struck by several female bombers in recent months despite U.S. efforts to recruit and train more women for the Iraqi security forces.
The military has warned that insurgents are increasingly using women as attackers because their billowing, black robes easily hide explosives and they are less likely to be searched.
Bajilan expressed frustration with the continued attacks. U.S. and Iraqi forces have launched several operations in the area but have failed to rout al-Qaida in Iraq militants from their safe havens.
"It seems that Baqouba is infiltrated and the terrorists have a foothold in it," Bajilan told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "They have people who offer them safe shelter and carry out attacks."

What is your guess what the next desperation Palin Lies will be?

Submitted by WisePolitics on Wed, 10/08/2008 - 9:13am.
I don't know but the McCain campaign will pull something out of their butts or continue with the same smears.
They will continue, for sure, saying that Obama will raise taxes.
All I know is that I don't think either one knows how to handle this economy, nor does anyone else it seems.
I know McCain isn't the one to go with because I don't like the way he thinks or has conducted himself in the past. Too hot headed. And I really don't like the idea of Palin at all.

if McCain were President that he would actually worry about people staying in their home?
-----------
If McCain became president, first of all, his need for revenge would have to be satisfied. After all, how dare we put him through this campaign? Why, he is a king. Don't you know that? He should be able to assume the throne with no questions asked. He is John Sidney McCain; DAMMIT!
Therefore, he would not worry about the elderly staying in their homes. As a matter of fact, he would send Blackwater to do the deed.
Let's not forget how he treated his first wife?

U.S. Inquiry Shows August U.S. Afghan Raid Killed 30 People
U.S. inquiry shows Afghan raid killed 30 people: report
Wed Oct 8, 12:22 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An inquiry by the U.S. military has concluded that U.S. air strikes on an Afghan village in August killed more than 30 civilians, far more than U.S. commanders have acknowledged, The New York Times said on Tuesday.
The August 22 air strike on Azizabad village outraged Afghans and opened up a rift between the coalition forces on the one hand and the Afghan government and the United Nations on the other, which both said more than 90 civilians were killed.
In the days after the raid, the U.S. military said the strike had killed 30 to 35 militants but it said it planned to reopen the investigation into the incident after cell phone video emerged showing bodies of people said to have been killed in the strike.
"The military investigator's report found that more than 30 civilians -- not five to seven as the military has long insisted -- died in the airstrikes against a suspected Taliban compound in Azizabad," The New York Times said.
It cited two U.S. military officials, whom it did not name, for the report.
"According to the new report, fewer than 20 militants died in the raid, which was conducted jointly by American and Afghan forces, and in subsequent airstrikes carried out by an AC-130 gunship in support of the allied ground forces," the Times said.

McPenguin is too funny 13ben!
I think McPenguin was channeling the late Burgess Meredith(original penguin) there.
Good YouTube find there.
you mean the green cigars, jbenet?
Oh yes, there are plenty of those all over.
Every once in awhile a man comes with his dog and some contraption of a rope and it looks like an empty flatish plastic container tied to it to scare the geese away. He throws the container into the pool and it makes a sound the geese don't like. The geese get out of the pool and are chased into flight by the dog.
Sandy.....
Congrats on your new home!!! Lots of work til you get settled, but enjoy it!

Post Debate Commentary from Think Progress
10:59: McCain made zero mentions of “middle class” tonight — the same number he offered in the first debate.
10:42: On Fox, Nina Easton notes that we observed the “sinking ship of free-market Republicans” go to the “bottom of the sea,” with McCain’s proposal of a $300 billion “nationalization” of the U.S. mortgage market.
10:41: CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin: “When he referred to Barack Obama as ‘that one,’ I thought that was something people will remember.”
10:40: Kristol says Brokaw did a “disservice” to the McCain campaign by asking “conventional, inside the Beltway” questions. (UPDATE: Fred Barnes says it “was not a real town hall” meeting.)
10:37: Chris Matthews notes the most “bizarre moment of the night” was when McCain “took a shot” at moderator Tom Brokaw, saying “not you Tom” in response to who he would pick as Treasury Secretary.
10:35: CBS’ Katie Couric noted that McCain referred to Obama as “that one.” (UPDATE: NBC’s Brian Williams notes it too.)

Palin will sit for two more
Palin will sit for two more Fox News interviews; campaign scoffs at idea of a press conference.
Fox News announced today that it scored two more interviews with Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK). A Sean Hannity interview with Palin and John McCain will air tomorrow night, followed by a Palin interview by Greta Van Susteren. Hours after the announcement, McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace — who has already shown her disdain for the media — scoffed at the suggestion that Palin conduct a press conference and take questions from reporters. Watch it: at link
Tomorrow night’s interview will be Palin’s third with Hannity — and fourth with Fox News — though she has yet to agree to talk with NBC, CNN, or MSNBC.
